Jerry A. Greenberg is the author of Murder in the Garbage, the first book in the Hank Boucher series of 3 books. A CIA investigation into the theft of cutting-edge military hardware from the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, is at the center of the mystery. Someone is also stealing top-secret data from the facility. Hank, a recently retired Navy Seal, doesn't think he's ready yet for a job behind a desk. He plans to work as an investigator and continue to use his military experience and strength. The CIA quickly assigned him to identify and apprehend the criminals who had stolen and sold high-tech military equipment from Lackland Air Force Base. Raoul Martez also recently left the military, so he wanted to find a job that would allow him to finish his college studies by attending night classes. Raoul applied for a job at Trinity Waste Management (TWM), the largest waste removal business in the area, on the advice of a friend. Raoul was immediately employed to fill an apprentice truck driver opening, working with an experienced veteran. He had no idea that he would discover the corpse of TWM's CEO, Charles Thornton, sealed in a large garbage bin before the end of his first week on the job. Do you believe it is likely that Raoul will play a significant role in Hank's CIA mission?

The main draw was how much I enjoyed this action-packed thriller, full of red herrings, and high stakes. The writing is fluid, with transitions that are simple to understand and do not shock the reader. I particularly liked how the author gave each chapter a name reflecting the main character on which the chapter was focused. The story was told from that person's perspective, making me feel more invested in the narrative. With only 188 pages in the PDF file, this short novel is packed with exciting action. Of course, I adore cliffhangers that fill me with dread.

I would have been more entertained if the story had opened with a flashback to Hank's last riveting mission with the Seals, which explained why he decided it was time to retire and look for a less physically demanding job. Raoul could be introduced in the next chapter, which follows him while researching for his new position. That was amusing and entertaining, but not how I expected a thriller to begin.

I gave Murder in the Garbage 4 out of 4 stars. It was absolutely entertaining all the way through and did not disappoint.

The intriguing mystery, Murder in the Garbage, involves the CIA and FBI. Law enforcement, crime, and treason are also involved. If any of these things interest you, I recommend that you read the book. Readers who like murder mysteries with a military background should especially check it out. This book might not be appropriate for those who are sensitive to swearing.
