Kelly and Tom are newlyweds away in Honduras on their honeymoon. While shopping for souvenirs for those at home, Kelly wandered into a top-secret lab where she saw things she shouldn't have. Kelly got caught, and now her life is in danger. Terrified, Kelly tipped off her older brother, Senator Mike McBride, on what she had found. Cynthia Patterson Eastman, Senator Mike McBride's chief of security, sent her operatives to snoop around the honeymoon location and provide more information. Concurrently, in homeland Korea, Dear Leader prepared to unleash mass destruction on all of North America. Can American forces stop this attack in time? Are the two events related? Read EMP Honeymoon: Kelly and Tom by Dorothy May Mercer to find out.

The story began with a cliffhanger. After which, the author slowly eased into the plot. I liked that the author provided translations for all the Spanish words used in the text. It allowed for easy comprehension and a seamless reading experience. I also loved the short length of the book. The author achieved this by providing detailed explanations for all scientific terms used within the story at the end of the book. I thought this was thoughtful of her. There are subtle lessons on dictatorial leadership and how it can be counterproductive. An important lesson from the story is that a leader who cares will enjoy genuine loyalty from his followers compared to one who does not. Strong themes in the book include honesty and teamwork.

There are parts of the story that progressed too slowly. This might be the reason why the end of the book seemed rushed. I also felt that the level of training given to Colonel Rhee, as described in the story, was not reflected in her delivery during the mission. It seemed a little too easy for Steve Spalding to suspect that something was off about her.

Despite the shortfalls, I enjoyed reading this book. The downsides do not deserve a deduction in the rating. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Since I only found 2 errors throughout the book, I believe the book was professionally edited. Character development was satisfactory, considering the book is part of a series.

I recommend this book to lovers of sci-fi, adventure, and political thrillers. There are some romantic teasers here and there for those who are excited by it. Readers may want to take note that the book contains minor profanities.
