Review of E M P Honeymoon
How would you react if you stumbled upon a secret terrorist organization while on your honeymoon? Do you run and hide? Do you leave the island immediately? Would you investigate further to find out what the operation is planning?
Kelly finds herself in this situation in Dorothy May Mercer's book E M P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom. A newlywed couple is trying to enjoy their honeymoon when Kelly stumbles upon a terrorist organization, putting her in a sticky situation. Since Tom is a cop, they decided to investigate further and try to figure out why someone attacked Kelly for walking into the operation. As a senator, Kelly's brother also helps them find out what Kelly discovered. She didn't realize the depth and danger of what she accidentally discovered, and they found themselves in an unexpected situation.
I found this book to be everything I was looking for in a worthwhile read. There was mystery, intrigue, adventure, romance, and characters that I fell in love with almost right away. The more characters I was introduced to, the more I liked them and their dynamics. Their interactions were effortlessly played off each other by the writer, and I enjoyed reading about their interactions. I enjoyed reading about Kelly's perseverance as she was thrown into an unfamiliar situation, and I thought she handled it well. When Kelly was confronted with situations that pushed her limits and comfort zone, she overcame her fears and tried to help the team as best she could.
As soon as the book began, I was immediately drawn into the plot and could not put it down. Immediately, I became curious about the characters and where the story would lead. During the book, the author had a fantastic way of telling different stories at the same time and connecting them in the most appropriate way. Through this, the author was able to illustrate how they are interconnected and how they will ultimately intertwine. It was interesting to read the book from both antagonist and protagonist perspectives, which gave a better insight into the situation at hand. The book was also very well edited.
The dialect the author used in the book at times wasn't entirely appropriate for the characters that the author was trying to portray. This is something that I didn't particularly like about the book.
In general, I found this story to be absolutely fascinating. The ending, however, felt extremely abrupt. At the end of the book, the author explains why the book ends abruptly and provides some additional information. Personally, I would have enjoyed some extra scenes with the book's main characters.
As much as I was excited to read this book, it honestly exceeded my expectations. Accordingly, I would rate it 4 out of 4 stars. For anyone who enjoys a combination of crime, mystery, and fun, this book is a must-read.
