If things had gone according to plan; Bing, Ron, Meat and Kaitlyn would have spent the night preparing for their SAT’s. Things, however, did not go according to plan. A night that should have been spent bemoaning about the near impossibility of surviving the next day’s test changed into one where the four friends had to fight for their lives.

Demon Freaks written by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is a supernatural, young adult book. The book is written in third-person and the narration shifts fairly frequently. The twenty-one chapter-long book is humorous, witty and is bound to make the reader laugh. The characters are unique and are written in such a way that they are easy to identify and understand. The book is fast paced and the reader is highly likely to finish reading the book in a single sitting.

I truly enjoyed reading the book and particularly noticed a few aspects of the book. The first thing I appreciated and enjoyed was the writing. There are elements of humor, mystery and the supernatural spread throughout the book, therefore making it something that young adults would enjoy reading. The author has also made use of descriptive writing that has aptly set the ambience for the book. The book’s fast pace and the element of suspense keeps the reader immersed in the story, eager to know what happens next. I also really enjoyed certain characters like Mr. Brom and Groomgerock. Their interactions with the other characters were always fun to read.

I don’t really have anything to complain about, but I’ll mention a few things I noticed. I felt the book was a bit too plot-focused. Many of the supernatural elements of the book were left unexplored and unexplained. I felt that certain characters could have been better developed, mostly the ones that came into play in the second half of the book, and there were also a few loose ends. But I’m expecting that the book will have a sequel that’ll solve these issues.

The issues I stated above, did not bother my reading experience in the least. In fact, I did not notice them while I was reading. It was only once I thought back about the book in detail, that these aspects came to my attention. I did not find any errors within the book and can say it was well edited. The book was enjoyable and I wholeheartedly rate it 4 out of 4 stars. There were instances of profanity within the book, but it did not feel excessive. I recommend the book to anyone looking for a suspenseful read with dangerous artifacts, unpredictable magic and strange creatures.

His sounds like an interesting story. When this group of friends was just preparing for SATs, something happened that would risk their lives. Thank you for your interesting review.

I don't care much about books centered around magic and other supernatural beings but i did enjoy reading your review because perfectly painted a picture of what to expect from the novel.

I enjoy young adult novels and that’s strange because I’m definitely not one. It sounds like they were able to break the boredom of studying.

I love books with supernatural elements, and if they have humor mixed in, it makes it even better. This sounds like a novel that I would enjoy. Thank you for an excellent review!
