Review of Grayling Part I
Unlike other vampires, a family of vampires, including Grayling and Fallon, lived by certain rules. One of which was never to go after innocent humans. They made efforts to comply, and all seemed to be going quite well. However, another forbidden rule was being broken by Grayling—he became involved with a human woman, Abigail, and her son, Willem. His attraction to them was based on a unique quality they possessed. We also see that it is this quality that makes them and those close to them vulnerable to attack. Grayling appeared to be caught between a rock and a hard place, having to choose between strictly adhering to their basic rules and protecting them. What will Grayling do? Can there be a right or wrong choice? Read Grayling Part I; Where The World Bleeds White, Book One of The White World Archives series to answer your burning questions.
I loved the author led the reader into the thoughts of certain characters in relation to the events they were experiencing. She achieved this by alternating between the first-person perspectives of these characters. This made the story more vivid and enjoyable. Furthermore, impeccable is the word that best describes the writing style of the author. Also, the progression of the story makes it a superb read.
Fiction lovers will attest that suspense is a crucial requirement for the appreciation of a book. I believe Archer effectively employed the element of suspense. To begin with, she hinted at the occurrence of some events or the cause of some events at different points in time. This raised throbbing questions in the reader's mind, and I wondered what the answers or results would be. For example, she gave hints relating to how Grayling became a vampire. I wondered what the full details would be. Subsequently, all the pieces came together.
We live in a world where many people believe that money solves every need or problem. Some even go as far as believing it is the motivating factor towards the action of another, and we see this play out in this story. I loved how the author depicted a situation contrary to this popular belief. To be more specific, she depicted this through Abigail's reaction to an event. I believe readers can learn from this.
Regarding the editing of this book, it was professionally done, as I found only minor errors. All I have been writing about this book are positive comments. I have no complaints about the book. This makes the rating obvious, which is 4 out of 4 stars. Would you love to read about the story of vampires laced with action, romance, and love? Then Grayling Part I by H. M. Archer is the book for you.
