Review of E M P Honeymoon
E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer is an action-adventure novel that follows the honeymoon of newlyweds Kelly and Tom, as Kelly stumbles upon a curious shop that turns out to be a front for sinister plans, and the married couple gets inevitably drawn into a much larger terrorist plot involving missiles and plans to destroy the United States and bring about a nuclear winter. The pair, along with American operatives, must race against time on foreign soil at great peril to prevent the destruction of the free world by any means necessary.
The book is an intense and fast-paced novel that speeds through its captivating plot toward a satisfying climax. The author manages to paint a beautiful picture of the events occurring throughout, including the backdrop of the tropical paradise contrasted with the nefarious and dangerous activities carried out by the terrorists and their nebulous leaders, issuing orders of terrible destruction from far-off safe havens.
The book shifts perspectives and is written in fluid and simple language, creating a continuing sense of impending peril and danger for our protagonists as they try to thwart the plans of the terrorists. The author crisply describes the administration and bureaucracy involved in the United States, and the perspectives of the terrorist leaders and their functioning are particularly interesting and add a special layer of richness to the overall narrative of the book.
The description of technology and communication used in the book adds a sense of realism to the plot and clearly shows that the book is a product of in-depth research and knowledge.
The only minor criticism of this book is its short length. In some portions, particularly when the protagonists carry out the search and investigation of the terrorist plans, the pace of the narrative feels rushed. The author could have taken more time to delve deeper into the investigation of the terrorists’ plans, as it would have added detail to the story and given more substance to the readers. However, this minor flaw does not affect the overall reading experience.
The story is genuinely engaging and the writing and editing are well executed and have no errors, and considering there is no major criticism of this book, it deserves a full rating of 4 out of 4 stars. This book has very light references to mature content and is a definite must-read for fans of action novels. It can be easily enjoyed by teenagers and adults.
