When I started reading EMP Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer, I was a little disappointed. This is because it felt like I was rereading another book of hers, Cynthia and Dan: Cyber Wars. As much as some authors find their niche and stick with it, feeling like a story is simply recycled is not something any avid reader appreciates. But, as I continued to read, she revived my faith n her creativity. In addition to that, her character development skills have tremendously improved, making this a more satisfying read.

So, as much as it felt like the same story with two new characters and a different source of threat, this turned out to be a remarkable read. If you, like me, have read the other book, do not despair. This book can also satiate your curiosity and send your mind going haywire over the action that unfolds. If you haven't read that book, you don't have to read it to appreciate this one. So, even though this one still has Senator Mcbride and most of the other characters from the book I mentioned, it is a separate novel that can be enjoyed on its own.

In this book, Kelly McBride (now Turbulo) and Thomas (Tom) Turbulo are newlyweds. Tom is a cop. To be specific, he is a Sergeant at Carson City Police Department. Kelly is Senator Mike McBride's younger sister. On their honeymoon, Kelly discovers a terrorist threat against the North American electrical grid. After Kelly makes this discovery, she has to do all that is in her power to ensure that, even though she most probably would not be able to withstand fighting two of these terrorists on her own, she must stop them from attacking their planned attack.

Writing natural-sounding dialogue is a high-level skill, and Mercer has it. She delivered on being able to relay information by using scenes that would make extended explanations befitting of the circumstance. She used each character's defining characteristics to nurture environments that would allow the resultant conversations to translate well so that it does not sound like what is said is not something that a particular character would say or that they would not say it in that way.

4 out of 4 stars for this brilliantly written and professionally edited book. If you are interested in the weak points of humanity, governance, and security, Mercer has catered to your desires in this book. The foundation of the story is built properly and sped up accordingly to fit the action that results. It was a fun experience to find myself bewildered, fretting, and getting my act together along with the characters. If you would enjoy being taken on that kind of ride, definitely hop onto this story.
