Review of A Portion of Malice (Ages of Malice, Book I)

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "A Portion of Malice (Ages of Malice, Book I)" by Lloyd Jeffries.]
Thaddeus Drake is an international peacemaker nicknamed "The Dove" by the press. He happened to be the famous Cain, who killed his brother Abel in the Bible and to whom God gave a mark for that action. After centuries of asking for forgiveness, he gave up on ever being with God again and moved forward to live a different life. As an immortal, he discovers three other people like him who have gained immortality. They are a Jew, a Roman, and an Apostle. Using these immortals as tools over the centuries, Cain has tried to cause mayhem and fulfill some prophecies foretold in the Bible with one goal in mind. What goal does Cain seek to achieve? Will he eventually achieve this goal with the help of other immortals?
Before he gave in to drugs and alcohol, Emery, the narrator of this story, was a journalist for the Times. Drake contracts him to put down his history and report the events that will occur subsequently. As the events that Drake planned unfold, we get to see Emery flashback to life with his ex-wife, Rhyme.
A Portion of Malice (Ages of Malice, Book I) by Lloyd Jeffries is the first book in the series. When I started reading this book, I was curious. However, the book made no effort to satisfy my curiosity quickly, as it was so full of suspense. It connects the events that took place before Christ, during and after Christ's crucifixion, and to recent years.
There are some positive aspects to this book that I noted. Irrespective of how serious this book's storyline is, I always pause to soak in the dark humor and have a good laugh. Sometimes, I do not understand the humor till some pages down, when the realization of the humor hits me. The author really has a sense of humor.
This book gave another side to most of the stories we've known, like how Hitler died and the reason behind all the killings before his death. You are also giving a different tale of who Emperor Constantine really was, how the Bible came to be, who wrote the Book of Revelation, and World Wars I and II. This book will bring controversy to many things you know (or think you know.) It might be a work of fiction, but you will have questions and doubts after reading it. This book is not for the faint-hearted. If you are not ready to read a book that springs up controversies against your beliefs, especially if you are a Christian, then you might want to avoid this book.
The book is set in present-day Dubai, Iran, Israel, and many other countries. It often goes back to Jerusalem, to the time when the Messiah was crucified. This book spans history and time, the natural and the supernatural. In this book, you will encounter different world economies, currencies, disputes, world powers, popes, etc. There was nothing I disliked about this book, so I am rating it 4 out of 4 stars.
There are places where God is portrayed as bad in this book. The story contains explicit descriptions of blood, fights, and violence. If you are sensitive to this kind of content, then be mindful of this book. Bloody fights were described graphically. This book was exceptionally well-edited, as I did not encounter any errors while reading it. I recommend it to those who love reading thrillers. Those who enjoy reading books on controversial subjects will enjoy this book.
