Review of E M P Honeymoon
What could go wrong in a couple's honeymoon — and oddly enough, in a place that appeared so quiet and peaceful? Kelly and Tom Turbulo had just wedded after a long painful wait. All they wanted was ample time together; at least they could, for once, take a break from their tight schedules and be free from the stress of their careers. But as it stands, duty always calls — or, rather, fate always strikes.
While on a walk with other team members she had gone hiking with, Kelly strayed from her group and entered a piggy toy shop. She thought getting some piggy gifts for her niece, nephews, and Grace McBride would help cement the relationship between the two families — and especially between her and her Grace McBride, who was now officially also her mother-in-law. However, the saying, "curiosity killed the cat" rang true. Looking for an attendant, she stumbled on a restricted area and was very shocked to discover what was going on inside. The piggy shop was all a facade to conceal the criminal activities going on behind its curtains. In an astonishing twist, she suddenly had terrorists hot on her back and an imminent security threat looming.
From the description above, you may already be wondering what the shop was hiding. I also asked the same questions and many more throughout the book. The book was a rollercoaster of mysteries and I was continually hooked to see how the scenes would play out. For example, I constantly asked what would be one of Kelly and Tom and their honeymoon. I also wondered what actions they would take to bring the network of terrorists down. If there are things that can keep me busy and engaged for a long time, this book makes it to the list.
I was amazed by the meticulous building of characters and the wonderful depiction of emotions in every chapter. Jo came out to me as jealous because he was hesitant to help Senator Mike McBride, even when his help was most needed. His reasons were petty and I suspected his reluctance was mainly due to a jilted affair with Kelly. Kelly, on the other hand, always knew what she wanted. She was also strong in her responsibilities and zealously ambitious — no wonder she waited for a very long to be married to Tom. Her determination in her career is also evident in her proactive response to security threats and in her efforts to resolve any criminal activity.
This is among the best books I've read. It was perfect in everything and I don't think I can point out any negative aspects. For this reason, I don't see why I shouldn't give it 5 out of 5 stars or why I should deduct any stars. Fans of crime thrillers will like the book, especially if they're into EMP terror threats.
