After the assassination of Osama bin Laden, the leader of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group, there was a power struggle within the organization’s leadership that saw two factions formed. The old followed Ayman al-Zawahiri, and the young backed Mustapha Youssef Hariri. After al-Zawahiri dies, Hariri takes control of the entire organization and wipes out the old guard who were loyal to him. He then sets his sights on his next operation: to inject the USA with suicide bombers and bring terror to its citizens. One would not have guessed that his plan for infiltration had already begun.

Dr. Abu Abdul Rahman, a naturalized Yemeni American, had done nothing to attract attention to himself or his family throughout his twenty-four years in the USA. Unknown to everyone, he is an Al-Qaeda sleeper agent and has just been activated to lead the fulfillment of Hariri’s mission by deploying teenage suicide bombers in New York City. Is there more to Hariri’s plan than the obvious? Is Dr. Rahman’s mission successful, and how does America cope with this terrorist group’s uprising?

Window of Vulnerability by Victor Ang Davis was worth the read. It was an exciting story about a small terrorist group’s attempt to breach the USA’s security, which throws light on the global issue of Islamic terrorism’s decades-long war with the West. It’s one thing to have an exciting story and another to tell it well. Davis’s work was enjoyable, especially with the way he utilized suspense and tension.

Davis’s writing also showed his grasp on history with how he utilized Bin Laden, Al-Zawahiri, other real people, and elements of Al-Qaeda’s story to craft a pulsating fictional story. There was a lot of information to digest and many characters that popped up throughout the story, but it only made it more enjoyable for me. The author also showcased his knowledge of intelligence and military terminology, operations, and strategy as he deployed them to good effect in this book. The action scenes were believable and exciting, and the story was well-paced.

Davis also included a few twists and turns regarding certain characters and their motives that helped to keep a healthy chunk of the story unpredictable. I also enjoyed the inclusion of date, place, and location information before most scenes; it aided my comprehension of the story as it unfolded.

The only flaw in this book was its editing and formatting. There were capitalization inconsistencies, punctuation problems, and misspellings. Consequently, I have to say that it wasn’t professionally edited. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to lovers of war and historical stories.
