An American Conspiracy by Alan C. Moore is a pulsating thriller about a freshman congresswoman, Madison Gladstone, who is forced to reexamine her life in Washington D.C. when Senator Boyd Radford, a close acquaintance, commits suicide for reasons unknown. It happened right after they met for a meal at a popular joint called Bombay Club. Madison's life took a turn for the worst, but she needed to find the reason behind Boyd's suicide. Even though she had no inkling, the entangled truth of what happened wasn't too far away from her, and with the help of an overzealous FBI agent, Special Agent Walter Robinson, she uncovered the web of lies that not only threaten her life, but they threatened the lives of many more across the world.

Stories about crooked politicians are amongst my favourite, but what's better than that are stories about crooked politicians and murderous terrorists. Alan C. Moore learned from some of the best writers in the crime/thriller genre and the influence is very apparent. I could see the DNA of some of my favourite writers in the genre in the author's writing, but I also felt that Alan C. Moore injected a good dose of his own identity into the narration. A good thriller keeps the reader on edge with its revelations and characters, and this novel had a healthy mix of both. I count Madison, Jason, William, Adder, and Fran as my favourite characters.

Because I have read so many crime thrillers, I could make out who the bad guys were from the beginning, and that wasn't such a bad thing because the characters were written very well. Madison Gladstone was also a great protagonist because she didn't appear as the most wholesome person around. She occupies a place that exists between a villain and a hero, with more of the hero characteristics dominating her character.

At the end of the novel, I wished I could read more and find out more. This is by far one of my favourite novels I have read this year. It's simply delicious. I have no choice but to rate it 5 out of 5 stars. It's close to perfect as any novel can get.

The language the book speaks is that of a crime thriller. The only thing missing was an intensely sexual scene to cap it off. I would strictly recommend it to someone who loves crime thrillers. It has exceptional moments of pure adrenaline, and that makes it a great thriller novel to share with like-minded individuals.
