Review of Deadly Sexy Lizzy
Deadly Sexy Lizzy: Volume 1 by Michael Richey is about mobsters, sex, money, and drugs. Instead of focusing on Lizzy, the main story follows a mob boss called Victor and his thugs. Lizzy collaborates with Senator Burt Sterling and his son, FBI agent Gabriel Sterling, to put Victor behind bars. However, Victor is always one step ahead of them. Will they finally place him behind bars? The book also presents a number of other perspectives, including those of Mercy and Tommy King, and the Gunn brothers.
The author succeeded in convincing me that Victor was a legitimate Mafia boss. He even injected a little humor into the mix. Sorry to say, I didn't find anything sexually alluring about Lizzy in the preface. I got the impression that I was reading about a woman who acted like a man. Any woman would agree that it's physically impossible to urinate while standing without the liquid running down her legs. In fact, Lizzy treated men the way that men typically treat women, which is something I don't foresee ever happening in the real world. The removal of Lizzy's hair and eyebrows did nothing to convince me that she is sexy. Additionally, I believe the author could have benefited from additional research into contraception. Not only does it not come in a bottle, but the pills take at least 7 days to start working, and they are not a "Plan B" pill, as he assumed they are.
I was relieved that the novel didn't center on Lizzy, whom I found unlikable due to the sexually suggestive things she did when she was underage. The main plot involving Victor and his thugs was interesting and suspenseful. Mercy and Jimmy were also two of my favorite characters.
It bothered me that most of the girls in the book were barely of age when they began having sexual encounters with elderly men. If I had known this was going to be in the book, I never would have picked it up. As a reader, I was also annoyed by the numerous typos throughout the text. Ten typos marred the first page of the preface. Another thing that bothered me was how often profanity was used throughout the story, even in the narrative.
Due to the flaws and other factors I mentioned, I can only give this book 3 out of 5 stars. It was a fast read, and I enjoyed the parts of the plot that didn't involve Lizzy, despite the many typos. Although I felt the book was not professionally edited due to its numerous typos, I also enjoyed the author's writing style.
You'll enjoy this book if you like reading about mobsters, narcotics, cash, and sex. Skip this book if you can't stand reading something with typos on every page.
