Review of Contrarian
At the beginning of the novel, Lars Christopherson is receiving orders for a new task. The money earned from this project will be given to a charity (an animal sanctuary). He thinks he is wealthy enough to provide better living conditions for the animals. As an undercover agent known for eliminating the bad guys, Lars conducts this work for the pleasure and excitement it provides. An organization in Hungary by the name of Srepska is preparing various occurrences to harm the American financial system to increase its profits.
The leader of these thugs, Elek, has tasked individuals with wrecking important American industries to cause their economies to collapse and raise the value of their Chinese investments. The initial destruction was caused by Srepka member Ivan Norvik bombing a power station, which caused a pipeline explosion. The next event was the explosion of a dam, which caused a flood that claimed many lives. Frederic Ulrich, another agent, had just returned from an assignment when he saw the dreadful news on television. He is employed by the German foreign intelligence service. Then he understood that his previous task was not finished. Calls were placed by Frederic to Lars and his agency. Read about the works of Lars and Frederic in this unique and exciting book. How much more destruction will the agents of Srepka cause? How will these sharp pairs apprehend the villains? There will be a ton of action throughout the book.
This compelling book, Contrarian, by Lucas Sterling, has a sluggish beginning. The thrills that occurred with the acts were enjoyable to me. It has a variety of topics, including action, detective work, fatalities, terrorist attacks, love, and friendship. The plot and character growth are excellent. It's good that the author first introduces each character. I wasn't prepared for several of the story's turns. I didn't fully comprehend what was happening until a few pages in. The author also has a wonderful way with words. The dialogue between the characters was masterfully interwoven. I once entertained the possibility that the author might be a real undercover agent because of some of the strategies and terms used. Every stage of planning, implementation, and strategy was spot on. Lucas Sterling is also great at describing. Every location they visited was fully described, which sparked my imagination.
In my opinion, Lars is the more intelligent of the two characters and is also my favorite. Being a former Homeland Security agent, his work and training clearly paid off. One cannot foresee that a hard man like Lars might become a softie when dating Camille. It was beautiful and admirable to witness. As a friend and backup, Frederic is the ideal guy to have. At all times, he has Lars' back. I found their confrontation with the enemy amusing because, at the time, they didn't trust one another. Their combination was unstoppable once they had earned each other's trust. This narrative has definitely helped me understand what those undercover agents and their families go through while putting their loved ones in danger.
There are a few aspects of this book that I don't enjoy. First, there was a slow and unclear beginning. Due to the first confusion, before it became evident, I considered pausing to read it. Additionally, they added pointless scenes and characters, like the part of Jimmy Johnson. However, I am aware that the author was attempting to illustrate how this mayhem affected the populace. But despite this, I give this 5 out of 5 stars. The events in this story were entertaining. After the initial disorientation, the remaining parts were thrilling enough to keep you interested. Although there were a few mistakes, it was nonetheless professionally edited.
I'll suggest it to action-story enthusiasts in general. You would undoubtedly adore this. There are numerous death sequences, just like in an action film. Therefore, you can avoid this if you don't like it. There are no adult scenes, so it’s suitable for anyone that can read and comprehend what the book entails.
