Affaires of the Banque by Elizabeth Szatkowski is a book in the suspense genre. It follows the story of Max and Tess as they find their way out of an investigation that will change their life forever.

Max and Tess Canna live the perfect life. Max is the diligent President of a flourishing bank, and he has achieved a good balance between his professional and personal life. With their days filled with work and nights filled with passion, there is nothing that they thought would go wrong with their life. Until one day an inquiry is launched against Max, suspecting him of meddling with his bank’s funds. Now every secret that Max has kept from his wife is exposed. Will Tess be able to bear the truth or will the truth ruin their lives forever?

The book is written more in the style of a play which is quite interesting but missing punctuation marks make it a bit difficult to follow the story, since it gets a bit frustrating trying to figure out which character is delivering the dialogue. Most of the story is conveyed through the thoughts of the characters; therefore, sometimes it feels that the author is playing mind games with the reader. The pace of the story does nothing to help the situation since the story is quite slow paced. However, my frustration with the author on these points evaporates when the story reaches its climax, because then the picture becomes clear. Trying the reader’s patience seems like the author’s way to heighten the suspense for the climax, and the climax doesn't disappoint.

This book isn't like other suspense novels which are filled with action packed scenes or gore. This novel is pure and simple suspense which enfolds in the minds of its characters. The character development of the characters is quite good, with the central characters of Max and Tess being developed in depth. Why would a man like Max want to cheat on his lovely wife with whom he shares a passionate relationship? That is the question which Tess asks herself, when scandalizing facts are uncovered about Max. Tess’s character is also scripted quite well, her confusion, her dilemmas, the emotional inertia she feels when she has to contemplate ending her marriage with Max, these scenes are dealt quite well by the author.

The storyline and the author’s style of storytelling is quite unusual and owing to this fact I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars, however with better editing I believe the book has the potential to turn out quite well. This book will appeal to readers who are looking for something out-of-the box.
