Review of An Eye for an Eye
An Eye for an Eye by Theo Harris cracks open the typical life of a contemporary, honest, and law-abiding detective who carries out investigations into criminal cases, going strictly by the law to catch and cuff criminals and ridding the society of evil people. This is the life of Kendra March and her partner, Andy Pike. Everything seems to be going as planned until their investigations into the activities of a criminal gang led by Guran Qupi changes their lives and pattern of operations forever.
Kendra and Pike are caught by the gang when they mistakenly give their surveillance spot away. This costs Kendra and Andy their legs and some other organs. They recuperate slowly. However, the urge for justice and revenge keeps Kendra going. On the other hand, Andy becomes angry and bitter and shuts the whole world out. Will Kendra's resilient spirit help her succeed in dishing out the karma Qupi and his gang deserve? Or will Qupi and his gang get away with their nefarious acts, as always?
Theo Harris carried the storyline beautifully, leaving unexpected scenarios and creating suspense. The usual crime stories and movies portray well and highly placed criminal gangs as enviable characters that never get caught regardless of what they do, showing the flawed justice system. However, the writer moved away from this clichéd storyline and gave her readers an ending they'd never see coming. Readers would be surprised at many events that happened. They would spark interest to continue till the end.
While following the plot of the story carefully, the reader might at some point suspect that one of the characters in Kendra's team might have betrayed her and their fight for justice, possibly feeding information to the enemy and putting Kendra and her counterparts in grave danger. This might not have been intentional on the writer's part, but it is an excellent feature, as it would arouse massive curiosity. It would give the reader more reasons to keep going until the end.
An Eye for An Eye is a fantastic read. It is exciting from the beginning to the end. I recommend it to individuals with love for thrillers or crime-related books. It's also a good read for anyone who loves adventure. No one will read this book and hate it. Although there are a few errors, the book seems professionally edited. Apart from the extreme use of profane words, there is nothing to dislike about the book. Therefore, I rate it five out of five stars.
