Review of Balancing the Scales

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Balancing the Scales" by Will Jäger.]
What if there was a method to bypass political correctness and police bureaucracy to prevent and solve a crime more quickly without breaking the law? Wytze Moolman, a Dutch traveler who was on holiday in Paris, was in a coffee shop when he noticed suspicious activity outside. He asked Captain Bakary Dje, a Frenchman he had met the previous evening, for assistance, and the two of them intervened to stop the situation. This turned out to be a terrorist attack in the process, and by halting them, this team prevented the destruction of the picturesque location and the lives of multiple individuals. Although they saved a number of lives, the two worked exceptionally well together, and they were hauled into custody to be interviewed.
The Dutchman was referred to as "Alpha" and the Frenchman as "Bravo" during these meetings. In these interviews, both had a similar perspective on the justice system and claimed that by discounting all of the bureaucratic rules and regulations, many of the delays could be eliminated and action could be taken almost immediately—still without breaking the law. When some of the right people learned about their viewpoints and realized how similar they were to their own, they took Alpha's concept and went to influential people to get their support. Can the justice system use contractors to avoid the majority of red-tape-filled bureaucracy?
There were many stories within the stories in this fast-paced, exhilarating, and thought-provoking book. After the book's initial introduction, we learn Alpha and Bravo's histories, including their origins and how they ended up in Paris. There are multiple crime scenes that are described, constructed for the scenario, and then handled by Alpha and his team. In addition to running his own business, Alpha also founded 3G Research and Advisory Group. Wytze founded this business on the idea that everyone could gain from law enforcement and privateers working together. As he put it, "Perhaps we need a way to balance the scales of justice some more."
The stories were intertwined cleverly, and I really enjoyed this book. It made reading this book a lot of fun. The book never once slowed down or became dull; from the very beginning, it kept you on the edge of your seat and pondering. I gained a lot of knowledge about Ciqaab, trafficking, and how events can be manipulated. I appreciated how everything was covered and described in a straightforward and relatable way. Other than a few errors I spotted and some of the text being gray rather than white like the remainder of the book, I had no complaints about the book. I rate Balancing the Scales by Will Jäger 4 out of 5 stars. I deducted one point for the above-mentioned reasons.
Young adults and mature people who enjoy crime and action books should read this one, in my opinion. It took a lot of research to write this book, which is fantastic. A few times an Afrikaans phrase or sentence was used, which I appreciated because it is my native language. The historical context of the locations they visited, as well as the street names, locations, etc., of the various countries, appeared real and were explained in such depth that I could picture them easily. I really enjoyed this book.
