Review of Soul Seeker
In Soul Seeker, Kaylin McFarren introduces a multi-dimensional world where an endless war between demons and angels rages on. Crighton is the devil's best soul catcher in Hell. He goes on missions to Earth to collect the corrupt souls of humans and then delivers them to Lucifer. Lucifer sends Crighton on an important task to collect the soul of an angel. An angel's soul is the devil's favorite kind of soul to consume. Crighton goes to Earth, tracks down a pair of angels, and finds himself in a compromising situation. One that turns his world and everything he thought he knew inside out.
I enjoyed the beginning story of Benjamin Poe. I thought introducing Crighton through Poe's point of view was brilliant. It allowed a good insight into who Crighton is and what evil he is capable of instilling in the world. I believe it also allowed the reader to witness Crighton's development throughout the story with a more detailed experience. I liked how Poe's character was never forgotten and, in the end, got what he deserved.
McFarren was extremely clever when developing the various intricate plots and characters in such an organized way. I was able to follow the characters throughout the book without getting lost or confused. I think the author's way with words is encaptivating. This book is full of suspense from beginning to end. I was always wondering what could happen next. Even with all the action, gore, and drama, this author managed to incorporate valuable lessons about love, trust, honesty, and accountability. McFarren also did a remarkable job of adding humor to this story. I thought every encounter with the gatekeeper of Hell was hilarious.
I must say that I read Kaylin McFarrens Annihilation, which is the next book before I read this one. I thought I had an idea of what may happen. But I was so wrong. I was very impressed by how this author exceeded my expectations and that it was still able to deliver plenty of shock factors. It was a great story that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I am excited about more books in this series.
Overall, I loved this novel and could connect with multiple characters. Lilith, by far, was my favorite. I loved her compassion toward other demons. I do wish that more scenes involved her character. I felt she played a big part in the ending and deserved more spotlight.
I rate this book a 5 out of 5. Though I wanted more in certain aspects, I still think this book is great the way it is. This book is professionally edited.
I would suggest this novel to all fantasy enthusiasts. Soul Seeker is an action-packed drama filled with suspense and surprises. It does have explicit writing involving sex and profanity.
