Demon Freaks by J.R.R.R (Jim) Hardison is a YA supernatural comedy that tells the story of twins Bing and Ron Slaughter, who agree to study for the SATs at a friend’s cabin the night before the test. When a freak storm hits them, seemingly out of nowhere, it cuts off all reception, leaving them in total darkness while they await the arrival of the fourth member of their punk band. The night takes a strange turn when their history teacher, Mr. Brom, comes charging at the teens with a mystical dagger. As the evening goes on, it is increasingly clear that supernatural forces are at work this evening, and with their friends in trouble, Bing and Ron must save them from those who seek to bring evil into the world. The twins go from car chases and running from golfers to fighting monsters and demons, all in an attempt to save their friends from being sacrificed. Was it all for nothing? Filled with humor, fear, sacrifice, and a surprising twist, Bing and Ron Slaughter and their friends are sure to entertain.

I really enjoyed reading this book; it was such a fun and entertaining read full of danger, excitement, and a crazy adventure. I instantly felt a connection to the characters and their relatable relationship with their teacher. This was such an interesting concept and wonderfully executed by the author. Ron and Bing’s willingness to sacrifice so much of themselves in order to save their friends was really admirable. I liked the banter between Meat and the dagger; it was very funny. Meat is absolutely my favorite character in this book. amazing and quick-paced writing. The whole book played like a movie in my head. I will definitely be reading this book again.

I have nothing but positive things to say about this book. It was fantastic all around and a worthwhile read.

There were no spelling or grammar mistakes in this book, which is a testament to how effectively it was edited. The language is clear, and the plot is compelling. I was intrigued from beginning to end by the action and suspense. This book receives a well-deserved five out of five stars from me.

The target audience for Demon Freaks seems to be younger readers. However, this is a book that I would recommend to you if you do appreciate young adult fiction, horror-comedies, paranormal fiction, fantasy, or even a good old mystery thriller.
