The Hallowells visited Ellen's cousin Nathaniel Fullerton, who resided on the outskirts of Grimsborough, in the late evening before deciding to return home. Masked men fired shots at Mark Hallowell when he got out of the car to check who had parked in the middle of the road. The masked assailants continued by murdering Ellen Hallowell, Amy Hallowell, aged 15, and Jake Hallowell, a one-month-old. Lani Hallowell, aged 14, the second child of Mark and Ellen, was fortunate to flee the murder scene.

Lani Hallowell resided with Nathaniel Fullerton, who is 38 years old, and his visually handicapped partner, Alice, for four years. Lani decides to pursue a criminology degree after finishing high school. Her objective is to receive top grades at graduation and join the police academy, where she will have the opportunity to become a detective. The murder of her entire family gives all of this ambition impetus. Will Lani pursue a career in forensics as she did? Who is responsible for Hallowells' murder, and why did they decide to act in such a rash fashion? For more information, read Secrets Can Kill 1 by A. Emeny-Whiley.

Standing ovations should be given to the author for this fantastic work. Although I've read mysteries before, this one is unique. I've experienced a wide range of emotions, including hate, disgust, pity, vengeance, and many others. The idea that one book could affect someone this way still escapes me. This book has a wide range of actions, which makes it difficult to solve the mystery.

I adore how realistic the author tried to make the book. Even though Lani was involved in a lot of odd activities, she still had the chance to do things that an ordinary young adult would do. Things like going to college, hosting a friend's sleepover, and going on a date. It was the ideal mixture to give this book balance. Nathaniel Fullerton is the one in this novel whose character I adored the most. After reading Chapter 1, I felt that the introduction to his character in Chapter 2 was slightly off. It also gave me some spots. His persona was, however, much more required as I read the book and as events progressed. It eliminated the doubts I had about his introduction. Some of my concerns were alleviated by his character's role in taking on the position of Lani's guardian.

The third-person narration is one of the aspects of this novel that I really enjoyed. It almost perfectly represents the simultaneous activity taking place in all the many personalities. The author switched between the antagonist's and the protagonist's points of view with each new chapter while remaining in the third person. So that when the antagonist attacks or makes a surprise plan to attack, the following chapter eloquently describes the protagonist's reaction and how she adjusts to the predicament she has been put in.

I have absolutely no negative points to report in this book. My heart pounded against my chest frequently when I read this novel because I feared what might still happen. The author of this book undoubtedly had a lot planned when they wrote it. When you think the mystery is about to be solved, another one rears its ugly head, sending you on another suspenseful rollercoaster. Every emotion I experienced while reading this book was terrific.

There were minimal grammatical errors in this book. It was professionally edited. Although there were errors, it doesn't subtract from the point the author was trying to make. Thus, I rate Secrets Can Kill 1 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to mystery, crime-resolution, and thriller enthusiasts because this book contains various spontaneous scenes in the field mentioned above.
