Review of E M P Honeymoon
E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer is a book in the McBride series that has 16 chapters and contains a total of 252 pages. It is a work of science fiction that revolves around the lives of a newlywed couple, Tom and Kelly. Kelly is the younger sister of Senator Michael McBride. Her husband, Sergeant Tom Turbulo, is a police cop who works for the Carson City Police Department. They both went to Honduras, Central America, to enjoy their honeymoon. One morning, they parted ways in an attempt to explore the place. Tom resolved to take some air on a dive boat while his wife surveyed the environment. Kelly entered a store called 'La Pocilga,' a Spanish word for a pigsty. It wasn't necessarily where they raised pigs, but a toy pig store. She hoped to purchase some piggy items for her nephews and nieces back home. She found a door that led to a suspicious computer lab and didn't know the store was undercover for a secret assignment. A member of the terrorist group caught her, but she managed to escape his grasp. Tom and Kelly decided to investigate this incident, which led to a shocking revelation of a planned Electromagnetic Pulse Explosion, intended to destroy the United States. Will they join forces and avert this mission? Read a copy of this book to find out.
E M P Honeymoon has a thrilling plot and an exciting sequence of events that never get boring. The scientific terms and concepts used in the book were carefully explained by the author, making it easy for the reader to understand. I couldn't easily predict how events would turn out. The book arouses curiosity in the reader; it made me read till the end. Despite being a book in the series, it is surprising that one can read it as a stand-alone. I must commend Mercer for showcasing her expertise in this particular series. I love how well-developed the characters were, as it made them feel more realistic. Another concept I admire is how the author organized the book into headings, despite being divided into chapters. It reduced confusion about where characters were and what they did at a particular time. I'm impressed that Tom and Kelly put their honeymoon on hold to protect their beloved country. They exhibited a high level of patriotism toward America, which is commendable. It made me understand that important missions must be carried out, notwithstanding the circumstances.
I loved how Cynthia and Sky from the previous series were brought in and got actively involved in the collective quest to track down the nuclear warhead. There's nothing I disliked about this book. The characters were well-rounded, making their actions relatable to the reader. I'm glad I picked up this book to read and review.
I rate E M P Honeymoon a 5 out of 5 stars, as I don't see any reason to give anything less. It is well-edited, as I could not spot any errors, and I applaud the editor for doing a great job. Readers would gain lots of knowledge concerning nuclear wars, the adverse effects of technology, and the deadliness of superflares from this book.
I highly recommend it to readers that enjoy thrillers, action, and science fiction. This book is suitable for both teenagers and adults alike.
