Morrow’s Con: Opening Gambit by Earl James is the first book in a series. It follows the journey of Morrow as he plans a heist to steal a grand painting and return it to its rightful owner. Little does he know, the rightful owner is an incredibly dangerous man, and success or failure is the difference between life and death. With only three weeks to pull his heist off, will Morrow be able to put together a team and a solid plan to succeed? Or will a failure have him running for his life? All these questions and more are answered in this thrilling and action-packed story by Earl James!

I loved this story deeply. The pacing was great, the characters were well-developed, the plot was suspenseful, and James did a wonderful job using descriptive language to weave together this amazing story. There were a lot of parts where I felt like I knew what would happen because I’d seen similar writing patterns in other books, but this book took my expectations and flipped them upside down. I was constantly getting surprised at each turn of events, and before I knew it, I was hooked on the story, and I was eagerly anticipating the next chance I’d get to sit down and finish reading.

It’s usually hard for me to find a book without some negative aspects to it, so I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Everything about this book was done well, and I don’t have anything negative to say about it all. It was professionally edited, the scenes flowed smoothly into one another, the storytelling was exciting, the plot was thrilling, and there was so much depth to Morrow’s character that I found myself wanting to know more about him and his backstory. All of this led to a seamless reading that I greatly enjoyed.

I would easily rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was a mix of high-quality writing and high-quality editing that lead to a high-quality experience.

I would recommend this book to young adults who enjoy crime and thriller novels. And even though the book is part of a series, it answers enough questions and ends nicely enough that those who aren’t fans of series can read this book on its own and come out satisfied.
