The Faithful Steward by Dmitri Dobrovolsky is a captivating short story about a man’s journey to live in God’s will. It twists and turns through different phases of life as the main character changes careers and takes a leap of faith by moving his family across the country. Barely able to make ends meet, something miraculous happens. As he follows God’s call, he encounters financial provisions not only for his benefit, but for the benefit of many others as well. He is able to experience both joys and pain like never before.
This book grabs your attention from the beginning as you’re plunged into an intense scene that foreshadows many events to come. Dobrovolsky paints vivid pictures throughout the book of life changing situations that truly get your heart pumping! He builds real life characters that are extremely relatable to the reader, as I viscerally felt much of what the characters were expressing as the action unfolded. This tale is one that creates thought provoking ideas about God and the way hardships miraculously resolve into miracles.
As the story developed, the disappointment was that I craved more detail. Dobrovolsky takes the reader on a wild ride to tell a fascinating story, but he changes scenes and time too often for the story to evolve and engulf me into its world. There were times I was confused as to which scene, characters, and time period was being described. I found myself going back and rereading sections to see if I missed key details that would have given me more information, and came up empty every time.
The Faithful Steward receives a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. As stated before, I really wanted more detail in the story. It’s fewer than 100 pages, so Dobrovolsky could extend it with much desired detail in each scene. Besides that, the book truly captivates you as the reader journeys through some intense scenarios. The storyline entices the reader to think about those little moments that seem minute but in actuality are creating wonders unseen.
The Faithful Steward is a story that would draw the attention of many different types of individuals. Though the book is faith based, it is a powerful story that all people would enjoy because the results are extraordinary. It is a thriller, mystery and narrative all wrapped into one. There are lessons to be learned from the book about following God’s call on your life, as well as taking chances when the risk seems beyond measure. I highly recommend this book!
