In Whisper Down the Cobbles, Prudence Jupe takes us through the lives of Diane and Mike, both divorcees planning to get married and start a life together. Before their marriage, they decided to rent a house away from their current residence, so they went house hunting. They stumbled upon Heptonstall, a small village with cottages and things of that sort, and they joined a tour guide taking a group of Japanese men around the village. While on tour with the guide, they decided to look at properties in the village, so they met an estate agent. The agent contacted Len, who had his newly renovated house to sell. They bought the house, but from the day they started moving things into the house, Diane began noticing some strange occurrences Mike was unaware of. At first, she brushed it off as her imagination, but after some time, she discovered her daughter, Rachel, saw the same signs and heard the same voices. It turned out her neighbour, Dorothea, had the same experience when she went to Len’s house while she lived at The Goose Barn. Apparently, Len had withdrawn some information about the house he had sold to Diane and Mike. Mike finally caught up with the strange events and decided to take action toward whatever was going on in the house.

Whisper Down the Cobbles was a remarkable read. I was engaged by the story from the beginning to the end. The author did a brilliant job with the organisation of the storyline and character development. Needless information and characters that will drag the story longer than necessary were left out, which made it an even more interesting read. This book met my expectation of a horror-thriller story, and I must commend Prudence Jupe for that. I had goosebumps while reading some chapters because the scenes felt so real. The plot twist in the last few chapters was fascinating; it was nice to see characters who were initially painted as villains in a new light. The editors of this book deserve some credit as well because I found just one error in it, which is proof that it was professionally edited.

The only thing I didn’t like about Whisper Down the Cobbles was that in some of its parts, specifically when the characters flashed back to the past or were dreaming, there was no notification or heads-up to the reader, so those parts were a bit confusing. Asides from that, it was a phenomenal story.

Given the numerous positive points I already outlined and the fact that I didn't dislike much about the book, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Diane’s story; it gave me many emotions and elicited different reactions from me.

If you're an avid reader of crime, thriller, and mystery stories, you should get a copy of this book. You will totally enjoy reading Diane’s story and maybe even relate to it. I also recommend this book to people who enjoy horror stories. There were some parts of the book that got me imagining things that made me super scared.

This book sounds like it is just the kind of thing that I would like. Like Diane, I would have just ignored the strange happenings. I don’t tend to scare easily, but what could this be? I hope they find out and can fix it.

This book sounds like a realistic fiction with lots of twist to it. However, I will pass this on because I do want to read action/thrillers now.

If it doesn't add to the story line then it should be left out totally. That is how to write an awesome book. Excellent review you have written. I enjoyed reading it.

Diane and Mike went house hunting, did they ended up with a haunted house? I'm curious to see what's behind those voices. Thank you for your great review!
