This story tracks several individuals as they get ready for a highly anticipated rock concert. It shares some insight into how each character reacts to situations that arise as they make their way to the evening’s event. Most importantly the story, in terms of solving the mystery, explains each person’s reasons for attendance and how they landed tickets.

The story begins with a detective interviewing the rock star, Adam Laherne, interrogating him for reasons to why he pulled a gun out in the middle of his third song of the night, ironically titled, Leave Me Cold, firing shots into his audience. It then bounces back and forth between following the potential victim’s preparations for the night and the interview and preparations of the rock as the reader tries to figure out why Adam might have done it.

I enjoyed the potential this book could amount to as the characters stories developed and started to show similarities and possible deeper connections to one another. I absolutely would have loved it if it would have been a longer story or held some sort of suspenseful cliff hanger that would have had me immediately go out and buy the next to figure this mystery out, instead it left me deflated and quizzical.

I would rate Leave Me Cold by Nicci Rae two out of four stars. I would recommend this book to those that enjoy the suspense and mystery genre because it did have some build-up to me trying to solve this case for a bit. I wouldn’t recommend it to those that like short stories because this one didn’t feel complete in that sense. I enjoyed the suspense, but wished it would have warned me that this was a part one of a multi-part book. This story seemed to be more like a teaser, preview book than a short story, and part one book.

This story felt like a thirty second commercial for a movie and I was left upset with no resolve. It seemed to hold great potential, but fell short on delivery with a lack of a complete story. I understand this was a short story, with a mere ninety pages, but in my opinion left me more confused than anticipated. It didn’t clearly state who all the victims were and it ended with a sense that this was a cut and dry case so why read the next book.
