John McBride is facing the worst moment of his otherwise brilliant career as a detective in the Chicago Police Department. Considered by colleagues and attorneys as one of the most respectable and successful members of the team, John had in the past one of the best rates of solved cases on the force. However, after losing his wife and daughter in an accident and becoming deeply depressed, McBride’s performance is now so poor that his job is in danger. When Captain Murphy offers him an option to save his employ, McBride happily accepts the challenge of solving three murders in a year, a personal quota. When the bodies of two women appear, the investigation becomes a priority and McBride wants to contribute and to find the murderer. There are many questions to answer, although the most important is why all the evidence suddenly points to John McBride as the main suspect.

With The Detective Quota, David Cuomo brings us a story full of suspense and mystery. Divided into two parts, this novel shows clearly all the knowledge and experience that the author, who worked more than twenty years as a trial lawyer, has about the legal world. Based on a real case that took place in Chicago, The Detective Quota shows the reader the strenuous job that detectives, lawyers, and other professionals do with every important case.

Reading the book, it’s evident that the author has a lot of experience in the legal field, and he knows what he’s writing about. There are so many details that provide realism to the plot and the novel.

However, there are as well negative aspects that need to be considered. I found numerous typos, punctuation, and spelling mistakes, which in some cases compromise the coherence of some sentences. I felt uncomfortable with some descriptions or moments of the action, like finding on repeated occasions a detailed description of the same injuries when someone talks about the victims. Decreasing the appearance of these descriptions could make some readers feel more comfortable without reducing the realism of the plot. This repetition of the same descriptions contributes, as well, to make the action slower, as the reader feels that is reading something that already knows, without meaning any addition to the overall experience.

Regarding all the above, I rate this book 2 out of 5 stars. Further editorial work would contribute to reducing the typos and improving the reading experience of this novel. If the typos get fixed, I would consider a rate of 3 stars.

I recommend this book to those readers who really love novels about trials and criminal investigations. Those who enjoy books about cases like O. J. Simpson will likely enjoy this book. I don’t recommend this title to younger readers.

I was very interested in this book when I first began reading the review. The number of errors and repeated details have changed my mind. I don’t think that I’ll attempt this.

The first two paragraphs of your review made the book sound interesting and the plot awesome because it's well twisted. However, the errors and your overall rating have changed my mind. Amaizing review though.

The review is a very layered one. While reading the first part, i thought, the book could be an excellent read. However, the second part of the review ensured I should skip this one. Thanks for the wonderful review.
