Review of Herbert West-Reanimator by H.P. Lovecraft

Post by Tstrickland84 »

H. P. Lovecraft has become, over the last twenty years, a mostly common household name. With the Necronomicon, the Lovecraft convention, podcasts like H.P. Podcraft and others, and the amazing websites about Lovecraft, Lovecraft has been more accessible then ever before. 99% of all his work is in public domain, so anyone can read it.

For the Book of the Month for October, I chose Herbert West-Reanimator. The tale of Herbert West is told from the unnamed narrators point of view. The narrator tells the story of Herbert West trail to reanimate get corpses in 6 parts. Each part follows West as he become more and more proficient in his skills until his final, possibly sticky end.

Herbert West-Reanimator is probably one Lovecraft's best long fiction. This novella is easier to get into than At the Mountains of Madness or The Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath, but rather Reanimator is funny and tongue in cheek. This novella is of the blackest of comedy and, coupled with Lovecraft's terrible racism, may not be for everyone. But if you like horror and weird fiction, check out Lovecraft's Herbert West-Reanimator.
