Taken by Dee Henderson

Post by kderse »

In the novel Taken by Dee Henderson we find Shannon Bliss hiding from people who kidnapped her when she was 16. Her captors, a very large crime family called the Jacoby, think she is dead. Shannon quickly puts a plan into action and finds a private investigator and former cop, Matthew Dane, and recruits him to help her not only return to a normal life, but to put the Jacoby family behind bars. We quickly learn that putting the Jacoby family behind bars isn’t the only thing stopping her from returning to a normal life. Her family has a lot of things going on. Her brother is running for Illinois governor. Her return may create a media frenzy. There is also evidence that shows someone in her family paid for her to be abducted, but no one knows who or where that money went. Then there is the fact she faked her death. If the Jacoby family finds out she is alive, she will be in danger. For justice to be done to her captors, she will have to share everything with Matthew so he can put them behind bars, which means sharing many secrets that she would rather forget.

This book is written as a Christian Fiction and includes a lot of suspense. I would recommend this book for teenagers and adults. Dee Henderson is an author I have been reading since I was in High School. She is excellent at creating a suspenseful book with showing God’s love for us in the midst of hard situations.
I really enjoyed this book. I have read every book of Dee Henderson and I am always eager for her next one to come out. The suspense in her books, always bring me to reading the book faster then I would like. Don’t get me wrong, I want to get to the happy ending, but I don’t want it to end because I find myself waiting for her next book to be released. This book was no different. However, it’s not the kind of dangerous suspense like Dee usually writes. Shannon has already escaped. It’s the kind of suspense wondering what twist will come next, what will happen in her life, and finding out what happened in the past.

Some other things I really enjoyed about this book were the depth of the characters, their faith, and the pace they take to get to know each other. I also think it was very clever to write this from Matthew’s point of view. At points, you wonder if it will switch to Shannon’s point of view since she is the main character. I found this smart on the author’s part because we are learning about Shannon at the pace Matthew is.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars.
