We have many relationships and many situations in our lives that usually change, begin or end because of our choices. Along with mystery, secrets, family relations, underground organizations, gambling and the influences of friends, all mixed with a touch of romance, all that and more I found while reading Diamond J&G Manor Parlay Gambling House by Sylvie L Gionet.

An extended story that began in Japan, where the two sisters, Sing and Kana, lived, each of whom had her own dreams, personality, desires, and choices. Choices that made their paths and the paths of everyone they cared about. Dissatisfied with her lifestyle, Sing chooses to work in a mysterious manor that makes her a prisoner of her choice; it also makes her abandon her child, Lucas, to leave him in the custody of her sister Kana out of fear. While Kana, who used to work in IT, decided to move to California and change her life to continue it away from her sister’s bad choices, to find herself, Lucas and their family, Carla and Sage pay the price for Sing’s choices. How could one choice affect the future of all of them, and how will they deal with all of that? Will fate bring them together again or not?

How badly your choices can affect your future and the future of those important to you. Just the thought that a wrong choice could endanger these lives is exhausting. The author was able to use the idea of gambling in the theme with twists. Gambling here isn’t only a game, but what I understood was how a person can gamble not only with money and property but with his life and the lives of others—how a game can destroy a life!

This book is a mixture of more than one interesting plot. The theme chosen by the author was a good choice because it gave her space to create an integrated and well-connected story without tedious prolongation. This was one of my favorite things. In addition to that, the narrative style was smooth and simple, and with the sequence of events and their flow, I didn’t feel like turning the pages. All I wanted was to continue reading. The author was creative in arranging the parts of the story from places and characters, and with the introduction of new characters, I found that the events of the story are coherent, and the interdependence of the characters is clear without excessive description but rather compatible with the events. I liked very much describing the places between which the events of the story moved and the details that showed the general atmosphere and the characters. The twists that the story carried were interesting, as the author’s way of presenting it gave you the feeling of going in a certain direction and then surprising you. All of this makes you excited and alert for what comes next.

In fact, there was nothing I didn’t like. Since I saw the cover, which I must have admired the author for choosing, I wanted to read the book. In addition to the simple and carefully chosen language, with the author’s ability to create a whole world, she was able to get me into it using description, accurate details, and smooth narration. And if there was a point I slightly disliked, then despite the smoothness of the events, the elaboration on describing the interior design of the manor in California and how to play the gambling game was a little annoying for me. I noted that it was well integrated into the events, but a little abbreviation would have been good for me. Because it can get the reader out of the state of anticipation associated with the events. But if you are a fan of these details, these parts are carefully written and you will like them.

This book is professionally edited, and despite the point that I didn’t like and mentioned earlier, it is more my personal view than a general judgement, and therefore I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The story shows that no matter how much you try to escape from your past choices without correcting them, you or your loved one will face their consequences. In addition to the importance of the family, the biggest investment you can make is in the trust and love of your family, because they can be your only support and saviour one day. I recommend this book to all readers, starting with young adults, because they can see through it how bad the consequences will be in the future if we don’t improve our choices and don’t listen to advice. Besides, the book was quite an enjoyable reading experience.

Did Sing survive? It looks like her choices affect her friends and family, lives are at stake here, so is it a happy ending? So many questions with this one summary. Its a bit lengthy but intriguing and carefully written review Sarah! True point, choices make our path. After the review, I can conclude that if we can correct our wrong choices, then we should, and we should also trust and love our families more

Hi Kavita, what I can say it's partly depends on your view of happiness as an end. I know it's a bit lengthy but I loved the story that couldn't stop writing sorry☺️ . You will enjoy reading it I hope. I will be happy to read your opinion about it later .

I remember the saying in this book: Life is a choice. I strongly dislike gambling. For me, it's always losing. And the percentage to win is not transparent. This book seems to depict a character who was drawn to gambling which affects him and his family. The narrative is not for me. Thank you for your all-out review, Sarah!

Hi, Hazel I also hated gambling and It's somehow draw the storyline but it didn't dominates the story as it seems . It was mixed with other events and plots carefully. Although there's some lengthy details in one of the latest chapter about it for the necessity of the storyline you wouldn't feel bother about it .
I appreciate your opinion and taking time to comment.

I loved the plot of this book. The simple language used and the vivid description was also cool. However, I really disliked the part where Sylvie was describing the construction of Julia and Gary's manor house; it was way too lengthy, more than necessary. Yet on the other hand, I felt like some parts of the story were rushed, and I even wished the author would touch on other aspects of Sage's life such as her schooling or even maybe tell us if she had other friends outside her blood family and relatives. Also, the way the three took out the assassins seemed to easy for me, like I didn't expect them to triumph unscathed, bearing in mind these were professionals/experts, at least one of the protagonists should have gotten even a minor injury or something (lol, maybe I've watched too many movies?). Overall, it was a good read with a simple plot. Kudos for the enthusiastic review, Zain!

Thanks for your review Sarah! :) It sounds like an interesting plot and there's also a good lesson to remember: our choices often have unavoidable consequences for either ourselves or those we love.

Thank you Blackstenius for your comment. I am glade you agree with me about the lengthy description of the Manor. But for me more details about Sage live would bother my reading cause all what I want to know and related to the storyline is mentioned any prolonging could disturb the flow of the events . Again all of that is negotiable and varies according to tastes. Overall the book was a very good read.

The theme of gambling--and losing--seems to cast a dark shadow over the lives of these characters. I hope Lucas has a good and thriving life despite the unfortunate challenges at the beginning.

Thank you for your thorough review!
