Dorothy May Mercer's E M P Honeymoon is a lovely tale featuring the main characters, Kelly McBride and Carson City Police Sgt. Tom Turbulo. The newlywed couple is currently enjoying their honeymoon in Honduras. One beautiful and sunny day, while her husband embarks on a diving boat adventure, Kelly decides to take a bus tour of the island along with some other vacationers. During the tour, she stumbles upon a gift shop called The Pigsty. Intrigued, Kelly enters the tiny little shop with the intention of buying toy pigs for her nephews and nieces and something nice for her mom, Grace McBride, and her new mother-in-law back home.

Unbeknownst to Kelly, this seemingly innocent shop hides a dark secret: it serves as the base for a powerful terrorist organization. After selecting the items she wishes to buy, Kelly realizes that the shopkeeper is nowhere to be found. Curious, she ventures into the store's backroom in search of an employee. However, instead of finding assistance, she stumbles upon a diabolical plan to destroy North America. In the midst of snooping, Kelly is confronted by an intimidating man. Fortunately, she manages to escape and make her way back to her hotel room.

Kelly urgently contacts her brother, Senator McBride, overwhelmed with distress and unable to articulate a coherent message. Mike, however, takes the initiative to investigate the situation, understanding that if he doesn't, it would escape the attention of the local authorities. Agatha and Sharon are sent to Honduras with the responsibility of protecting Kelly from harm and learning the truth about what is really happening there. Finally, the undercover CIA agent, Steve Spalding, discreetly joins their ranks, having been present all along. As a team of five, they conduct an investigation, meticulously gathering evidence to relay to their superiors and ensuring they are kept informed. Simultaneously, an undercover terrorist organization led by Su-jin operates in Honduras. Su-jin poses as a tourist, with her true objective being the successful activation of a nuclear device.

I commend Dorothy May Mercer for skillfully integrating elements of a scientist's talk-show chat to support the espionage narrative in her book and for the clever incorporation of the EMP into the title. One of my personal highlights was the talk-show interview, which added an intriguing layer to the story. It was fascinating to delve into scientific phenomena such as solar flares, with the Carrington flare serving as a captivating illustration. The book also provided insightful information about EMPs (Electro Magnetic Pulses) and the devastating impact they could have on specific regions of the planet.

The writing in the book is commendable, with a captivating storyline that held my attention throughout. The absence of errors or mistakes further enhanced my reading experience. The characters were well-developed and relatable, allowing for an effortless connection. Additionally, the vivid descriptions of the scenery added an extra layer of beauty to the narrative. Considering these factors, I confidently rate the book 5 out of 5 stars, acknowledging its exceptional editing, strong character development, and breathtaking depiction of the surroundings.

Despite thoroughly enjoying the book, I did come across a few aspects that were less satisfying. One particular area of concern was the insufficient characterization of the main protagonists, Tom and Kelly. Throughout my reading of the narrative, I struggled to form a meaningful connection with these characters. Additionally, I found the ending to be overly abrupt, leaving me with a sense that there were untapped depths and unresolved threads within the story that deserved further exploration.

In my opinion, readers who appreciate sweet romances intertwined with intriguing narrative twists could find this book quite enjoyable.
