Review of Sail, by James Patterson and Howard Roughan

Post by lauraforever »

Hello everyone, this is a review of the book, Sail, by James Patterson and Howard Roughan. The book is from 2008, so I know it if pretty old, however, it was one I picked up and finished it this morning, so I thought I would write a review.

Both of these authors have a way of writing that makes each page dissolve in anticipation and this book is no exception. A quick synopsis of the storyline, this book is about a somewhat wayward family on the quest to bring their dysfunction to a more manageable level through a two month boating excursion. It is about the Dunne family, specifically the mother and three children. They all have one problem or another that is keeping them from being the close knit family that the mother, Katherine Dunne, is hoping for. In her quest to reunit them, Katherine has planned a two month getaway so they might reconnect and fix their relationships with eachother. However nothing is ever easy and the problems begin on the first day. Weather, sexual tension, mechanical failures, deceit, lies, and double handed tricks all play a fundamental role in this thriller.

I have always been a fan of James Patterson, and have always enjoyed his co-author books and this book, while older, still flowed in the typical manner. Each chapter is very short, only three or four pages long, and at the end of each one you can't help but want to continue, just to see what will happen next. The authors also jump around from sub plot to sub plot, continuing to keep you in suspense of what is going to happen next. There were a few "suprises" that came up, some of them being the typical, 'Wow, I didn't see that one!' to the twists that you could anticipate from the very beginning.

Overall this was a very fast read, with the characters well written and defined, a clear understanding of scenes and situations that gave way to a very interesting and enjoyable book. The characters and situations were not apart of a sequence, and all the history and background was explained clearly and consistently.

I would definately recommend this book to anyone that wants a fast, enjoyable book.
