Soul Seeker, by Kaylin McFarren, is an intriguing reimagining of the idea of demons and angels and the constant war between the two. The first part describes the lengths that Crighton, the most important soul catcher for Lucifer himself, will go to in order to drive a man, Ben, out of his mind and trick him into killing his own son. The second part focuses on Crighton and his life within the walls of Hell. Crighton has always been different from other demons, even going so far as to enter into a strained friendship with an angel of all creatures. However, once he’s connected through souls with an angel against his will, he begins to learn just how different he is and how much he is willing to fight for his new soulmate.

I loved everything about this book. The first part, when told from Ben’s perspective, really hooked me. He described the demon and his actions in a way that made me not want to read the book alone at night. This part was a set up to the rest of the book for the readers to see just how evil and seemingly unworthy of love a demon can be. Part two went in a completely different direction, but it was written just as well and the characters were complicated and relatable, despite them being from the spiritual world.

I was impressed with the writing as a whole. The settings were described well and there were several plot twists that I didn’t see coming. I admit that some of the plot points were cheesy, especially when dealing with a devil and an angel whose souls are now bonded. However, that didn’t detract from the enjoyment of the story. I found myself not wanting to put the book down.

I found no negative aspects. I will only say that there are some triggering moments in this book and a lot of heavy topics, as warned by the author.

Overall, I rate this book five out of five stars. I found no errors and believe the book to be professionally edited. This, combined with the overwhelming positive aspects of the book, gives it five stars.

There is a lot of harsh language and inappropriate content that is both stated outright and hinted at. Therefore, I would recommend this book to mature readers who are looking for an entertaining love story full of gory action.
