The Great God Pan

Upon recently receiving my new Amazon Fire, I zealously went to Project Gutenberg to fill my device with new and interesting delights. Upon a few classics, I have stumbled upon a curious, alluring title of familiarity, The Great God Pan. With a few thoughts and the faint remembrance of Peter Pan modeled off of the Greek god Pan, I downloaded and commenced reading. I was very well aware of how dark and grim Barrie's Peter Pan is, I was expecting the book to bear a similar sombering tone as well. The Great God Pan spawned its own shade of darkness. It bears great semblance to a Twilight Zone episode, where the tone and mood grow increasingly unnerving as it progresses. As a horror book, it was delightful. The mystery and events unfolding build to the great crescendo of uneasiness as the novel proceeds in its orbit around "seeing the Great God Pan". The title does bear a little deception however, the Great God Pan acts more as the fog that settles over the characters and environment rather than a main focal point. But the novel is enjoyable yet, as the power, terror, and infamy of the god Pan are built up and expressed through the expression of the characters themselves. He may yet reveal himself, fear has more forms than one. What are your thoughts? I have only read this once, and may require several more reads to fully glean everything there is to offer
