My Stephen King Book Recommendations
Stephen King is most known for his works in the horror genre of writing books, creating many known classics that have gone on to make a wide range of quality in movies and TV shows.
Regardless, Stephen King is who brought me into the world of horror genre books and sparked my love for various horror films as well. I have a lot to thank Stephen King for when it comes to my younger teen years. So, I would like to share some of my personal favorites that I'm sure many others share.
Carrie: This was one Stephen King's first book, and it was one of the first ones I've read as well. I'm sure we have all heard of or seen the famous scene with Carrie trashing the school gymnasium after the prom where she was pranked by some very cruel jerks that poured pig's blood on her when she was nominated as prom queen. The book and movie honestly do have a lot of similarities, although I still highly encourage those to read the book, as it delves into Carrie's life dynamics more than the movie could and the climax was far more engaging in the book as well. Definitely one of my favorites and many others favorites as well.
Pet Semetary: Yes, it is spelled as semetary, and it stays that way for the entire book as well. This was another book that actually turned out a good movie (wish that could be said for all of Stephen King's adaptations, but I digress). This was the first Stephen King book and first horror book I ever read when I was a teen. My mother recommended it. This was truly a creepy novel, and this book created that sensation in me like no book ever has before, and honestly ever since, with some exceptions of course. But you never forget your first book that truly creeps you out. This was very well written, very engaging characters, and you feel bad for every character involved in this nightmare scenario Stephen King has created for them. Need a first book to read, Pet Semetary is definitely the first one I will recommend.
Christine: This book is one of Stephen Kin's longer reads, with 721 pages, but it remains engaging all throughout. It doesn't feel long or drawn out, the world and characters are very well developed, especially since the book takes great care to develop the characters in the present as well as provide key insights and histories for characters of the past. All centered around the main gal herself, Christine. A car. A car with the green-eyed monster in her eyes towards anyone close to her "lover/diver" of choice, in this case, that being Arnie Cunningham. The book follows his hobby turn obsession turn addiction and all the unfortunate characters in his life who are affected by Christine's wrath. Sometimes it's dare I say justified, and other times it's quite tragic, but all horrifying. A truly enjoyable read for those not afraid of the page count.
Cujo: This is another book I really enjoyed, it was one of the ones I bought when I had a large book money budget I saved up, and spent it on several books written by Stephen King, one of these included Cujo. If there is ever a cautionary tale to justify Rabies vaccinations for all pets, this is it. What's really interesting is there are some chapters that show the perspective of Cujo himself, and how this poor good boy Saint Bernard gets bit by a bat and becomes infected with the infamous virus with a near guaranteed fatality for both humans and animals once symptoms are onset. We see plenty of characters fall victim to his blind violence. The human characters themselves are complex and flawed, and watching their struggles alongside the horrors brought up by Cujo are quite a sight to hold. I really enjoyed this book, and I'm sure many others have as well, even if it is not as popular as some of the others I have listed.
TL;DR: My personal recommendations for Stephen King books include Carrie, Pet Semetary, Christine, and Cujo (a lot of "C" titled books, I just noticed), and I sincerely hope readers take these recommendations into consideration for their next choice of book.
Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you have a nice day!
