Review of E M P Honeymoon
In her suspenseful mystery novel, E M P Honeymoon, Dorothy May Mercer explores terrorist threats and rocket experiments. It describes a top-secret expedition on a Central American Caribbean island. Interestingly, a Korean terrorist group is the subject of the book. It also focuses on the Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) and Space Force's efforts to destroy it. Kelly, the senator's younger sister, calls him out of the blue. Together with her spouse, Tom Turbulo, she is on her honeymoon. When Kelly unintentionally stumbles onto a hidden lab within a souvenir store in Honduras, their trip takes an unanticipated turn.
The involvement of a foreign government in this scheme was something I enjoyed. The outcomes were unsettling, but I think they were plausible. I also appreciated how realistic the characters were. Additionally, I liked how the chapter's subheadings let me know when the situation changed. This made it easier for me to understand what was going on in the book as I read on. Also, the author's inclusion of photographs toward the beginning helped me visualize the potential issues. Those pictures piqued my interest a lot.
In my opinion, this book might have used a little more time to develop some of its ideas. Even though the momentum was generally good, there were instances when it seemed like Dorothy was racing through problems. To be fair, she added some additional material at the end to elucidate some of the more cryptic passages, which I did find helpful.
I rate E M P Honeymoon 5 out of 5 stars, as I don't think the only slightly negative part that I mentioned is enough to deduct a star from my rating of the book. The fact that I truly enjoyed reading this book amazed me in an exceptionally good way. It was incredibly well-edited, and as I stated earlier, my one minor quibble had no bearing on how much I enjoyed it. I liked that several of the characters from her past works made an appearance as well. I'm excited to find out how Dorothy develops the world that she has established.
The book depicts themes like conspiracy, conflict, science, and love, so I recommend it to lovers of the mentioned genres. Since there is some light profanity throughout the book, I think readers older than 16 would find it more appropriate.
