Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren is an adult supernatural fantasy novel about good and evil. The author describes a version of good and evil that is unique. I found the book refreshing and fun to read.

The book has two parts. The first part describes the relationship between a man and his son. Not long after a tragic event early in the story, you learn about a group of soul seekers and what they do for the devil.

The second part describes the perspective of the demons, angels, and the devil. Kaylin McFarren humanizes these supernatural creatures, adding depth to their characters.

Soul Seeker begins with Poe at a meeting with some friends when a large explosion catches them all by surprise. He is a firehouse captain and must get to the station quickly. Not long after the explosion, he realizes it happened at the hotel where his son works. Poe rushes to the scene, but unfortunately, the hotel is a total loss. He locates his son at home, but something feels wrong.

Following the fire, Poe goes to the police station. A troubled transient man, named Crighton, is demanding to talk to Poe. Poe and the police officers soon discover that this is no ordinary man. Things quickly spiral out of control. Early in the interrogation, the man reveals his demon identity and that starts them all on a journey of pain, sadness, and destruction.

In the second part, the author describes Crighton’s life. We learn about his upbringing, relationships with his mother and the devil, and a new relationship with a special angel, Ariel. Crighton is considered the best soul seeker in hell. He hunts the souls of humans who have done terrible things. Crighton is the devil’s favorite.

The devil sends Crighton on a special mission to capture two angels. Unfortunately, Crighton has strong feelings for one of the angels. Now he is lost and confused about what to do next. A terrible battle will decide his and Ariel's fate.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was well written and engaging. I like how the author split the book into two parts. The reader gets to see both sides of good and evil. I also liked how the author showed a different side to the demons. Kaylin McFarren makes you consider that good and evil may not be as clear-cut as you would think. Kaylin McFarren does a wonderful job with character development. She kept me engaged with the different characters and their separate but connected experiences. I didn't like all the profanity, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the book.

I recommend this book for adults who enjoy adult fiction about supernatural fantasy. There is strong profanity and sexual interaction in this book; I would recommend it for adults only.

Don’t be surprised if you see demons in a different light after reading Soul Seeker.
