Review of Deep Down Inside
Al and his friends lived in a cabin deep in the forest. Ombie, a stitched-up hulk made up of different skins; Anna, who always manifested beside Al to whisper things into his ear and always disappeared whenever Dana came into sight; Amadeus, a werewolf with doggy eyes; and Count Feratu, who always fed on Al's blood for strength before creeping out of his coffin, were Al's friends who led supernatural lives.
Dana, an archaeologist who had found a map in the jaw of a humongous statue, searched for the King's realm to see if it was even real. Her grandmother had given her a necklace that had a striking resemblance to the one on the map she had found. She met Al in his cabin as she wandered, looking for the King's realm in the forest. She managed to get into this cabin and was soon on a quest to find the "King", get to his realm, and probably tell the world about it.
I found Deep Down Inside to be an amazing read, and I wanted to know who Al was and how he was connected to all of this. Who was the "King"? Was his realm real? What about the symbol on Dana's necklace and its similarity to the symbol on the map? What is that cabin, and what sort of magic does it hold? Roger Rosenbarger had a beautiful idea and was able to deliver it through this book.
There are several positive aspects of the book. First, it is realistic and aligns with what happens in the real world, despite having supernatural elements. For example, in Chapter 11, when Ombie asks Al why he doesn't like Dana anymore, Al tells him the consequence of Dana finding the King. Ombie becomes angry and lashes out at the black angels around him. This reminded me of and stressed that when angry, he would do something he naturally wouldn't do or something beyond him. Sometimes anger lets one accomplish something, like dealing with an enemy, as in Ombie's case. But most times, it is disastrous and should be avoided or, better yet, controlled. Also, I find the book intriguing. For example, something about the way Ombie spoke was comical and silly. Adding the letter "s" to verbs that are supposed to be singular and using incorrect verbs in his speech added to the uniqueness of his character. Also, I liked how Dana had to get past the door by completing what seemed to be quests.
There are no negative aspects of the book. I can say that the book was professionally edited. I noticed just a few errors and nothing negative about it. Hence, I'll rate it five out of five stars. I found no reason to deduct a star from my rating. There is no doubt that people who like horror and mystery books will love this book. Thus, I recommend the book to them.
