Review of E M P Honeymoon
E M P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom by Dorothy May Mercer is an exhilarating tale of suspense featuring newlyweds Kelly and Tom. Their idyllic honeymoon takes a perilous turn when they unwittingly encounter a nefarious faction of terrorists scheming to devastate the United States through the use of an electro-magnetic pulse (EMP).
Kelly and Tom are on their Caribbean honeymoon in Honduras when the story begins. Sergeant Tom goes on a diving adventure, while Kelly takes a trip to a nearby town. As the tour bus came to a stop, Kelly noticed a pigsty shop and decided to go inside to acquire some piggy gifts for her nieces and nephews, not realising she was alone in the shop. Curiosity prompts her to take a look through a back door, which reveals a high-tech laboratory. A man attacked her from behind, but she fought her way out and escaped. While she is still in disbelief about what she has discovered, she immediately informs her brother, Senator Mike. They deconstruct the shop's facade, revealing a clandestine terrorist organisation plotting an EMP attack on the United States. In a race against time, Kelly and Tom team up with Senator Mike McBride and his determined security crew to stop the terrorists and avert the imminent EMP disaster.
This novel is a compelling example of the thriller genre. It has all the elements of a good thriller: a suspenseful narrative, well-rounded and credible characters, and a satisfying ending. This literary piece dives into a timely and plausible topic—the scary threat of an EMP attack. The author expertly conveys a thorough understanding of the science underpinning EMPs and the probable consequences of such an attack. It is worth mentioning, however, that some readers may find these explanations unnecessarily lengthy. The book also delves into thought-provoking topics such as the dangers of terrorism and the enduring importance of family and love. The characters are well-developed and endearing to the reader. Kelly and Tom are a relatable and sympathetic pair, and the reader is rooting for them to succeed. Furthermore, the tenacious characters of Mike McBride and Cynthia make significant contributions to the plot.
While the plot of this book is somewhat predictable, its predictability reduces the suspense to some degree. Nonetheless, this minor flaw does not detract from the book's overall attractiveness.
Furthermore, the lack of typos signals flawless editing, which improves the reading experience. As a result, I rate this fascinating thriller 5 out of 5 stars. I heartily recommend this book to fans of thrilling thrillers, action-packed storylines, and terrorism-themed literature.
