Review of E M P Honeymoon
"E M P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer takes readers on an exciting journey with Kelly and Carson City Police Sgt. Tom Turbulo, a newlywed couple whose honeymoon takes an unexpected turn. The story is set on a beautiful island in Honduras, surrounded by breathtaking beaches, and their private cottage right on the shoreline. What sets this place apart from other private island resorts is that it fits perfectly within their budget, unlike the exorbitant prices they encountered elsewhere. Kelly couldn't believe how expensive similar places were until she stumbled upon this affordable gem. However, little did she know the reason behind its affordability.
The story starts innocently enough with Kelly deciding to explore the island by taking a tour bus and visiting local shops. It is during one of these visits that she unwittingly becomes entangled in a sinister plot. As she tries to escape, she becomes the target of an attack. Fueled by curiosity and a desire to uncover the truth, Kelly and Tom embark on a dangerous investigation, assisted by a team of undercover agents and utilizing their own skills and expertise.
Their journey begins at a seemingly ordinary gift shop named La Pocilga—The Pigsty—with an unusual facade. Inside, hidden behind the storefront, lies a high-tech lab housing expensive equipment and a vehicle parked next to a shipping container. The lab features banks of computers, cryptic formulas scrolling across huge monitors, and rows of enigmatic machines. Overhead, massive interactive screens display maps of the United States and Canada, complete with interconnecting gridlines and blinking lights. Surprisingly, the locals remain unaware of what goes on behind the shop, as long as the necessary palms are greased and the rent is paid. Meanwhile, Kelly's husband, Sgt. Tom Turbulo of the Carson City Police Department (CCPD), is out exploring the magnificent coral reefs on a dive boat, likely enjoying the time of his life.
One of the standout aspects of this book is the author's talent for maintaining a gripping narrative from beginning to end. The story unfolds at a fast pace, keeping readers on the edge of their seats, eager to discover the next twist and turn. Mercer's attention to detail shines through in her vivid descriptions, painting a clear picture of the settings and enriching the overall reading experience.
The characters in "E M P Honeymoon" are well-developed and relatable. Kelly's intelligence and background in computer science, combined with Tom's experience as a police officer, make them a formidable duo. The supporting characters, including the undercover agents and Kelly's brother, add depth and complexity to the story. Each character brings unique skills and perspectives, contributing to the overall dynamic of the narrative.
While the book primarily focuses on suspense and action, it also offers moments of romance and humor, providing a touch of lightness to the story. The blending of genres keeps the plot engaging and multifaceted, appealing to a wide range of readers.
From a technical standpoint, the book is well-crafted and edited. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars and didn't find any negative aspects to make me rate the book lower. The prose flows smoothly, and I didn't notice any significant errors or inconsistencies. This attention to detail demonstrates the author's professionalism and commitment to delivering a polished product.
Overall, "E M P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom" is a captivating read that combines suspense, action, romance, and humor. Dorothy May Mercer has created a captivating story with well-rounded characters and a fast-paced narrative. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrilling and multifaceted adventures. The book is exceptionally well edited.
