Review of Heartless Obsession
Heartless Obsession by Ruben Elustondo is a compilation of love, romance, jealousy, envy, and betrayal. The story is focused on the life of Christina McGregor, who was heartbroken after catching her best friend Barbara cheating on her with her boyfriend, Kevin, the weekend before their wedding. Christina was at the beach house with Kevin as they hosted a party with friends and family. Kevin left Christina and went into the house with the excuse that he wanted to go make a business call, but instead went inside and made out with Barbara. After some time, Christina went in to get snacks for herself, and there she caught both of them. She got angry, left the house, and drove off with tears in her eyes. Why was she betrayed by her best friend? Do you think Kevin can still mend her relationship with Christina? Don't wait to get a copy of this book to find out.
I have learned two things from this book: one was on friendship and betrayal, and the other was not to hold grudges or let our anger lead us to vengeance, as we may not only harm or affect ourselves but those around us and those we love dearly. I also understood the need to be careful of the type of friends we keep, as they may lead to our downfall or uprising, and an example was the difference between Barbara and Anna.
Furthermore, I loved the support, care, and attention that Christina's parents gave her. They were very involved and interested in their daughter's happiness, which is what every responsible parent would do. Furthermore, I loved how the author brought Lucas Meijer into the story and how she crossed paths with Christina McGregor. The book was also full of suspense and a mystery to solve, which I adored.
I didn't love how Kevin disrespected and played down Christina's intelligence, knowing fully well that she was in love with him. Though that didn't justify Christina's actions afterward, as she would have done better than she did. Some parts of the book were skipped at first reading, and I only got to know what happened later on in the book, which was only briefly talked about, like when Lucas went to the Red Light District to meet Johana and was followed by his wife. I was expecting a detailed explanation of what had happened between them. Furthermore, I saw some errors while reading, which kind of disrupted my reading. Because of my given reasons, I rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
I would recommend this book to those who love mystery, love, and crime books, as they would enjoy reading it and find it interesting.
