Jerrod Hurst, a war veteran turned CIA analyst, and some of his comrades from his days in the Vietnam War had made a promise to reunite and honor their fellow Navy crew members. However, during a funeral gathering, they received distressing news that Morris' grand-daughter, Samantha, along with her friends, had been abducted by a dangerous gang south of the US-Mexico border. Although, after the loss of his wife he had lost the desire to work and retired, as time elapsed, the prospects of legally recovering the teenagers dwindled rapidly. The fate of these adolescents, and ultimately the entire country, rested upon the success of their rescue mission. Yet the dangers were abundant, especially given the absence of formal authorization for the rescue attempt. Experience their high-stakes journey in the captivating thriller Sheepdogs by A. J. Billings.

Sheepdogs is a fictional book centered around the kidnapping scourge that often accompanies the drug smuggling trade along the US-Mexico border towns. Through the medium of fiction, the author skillfully narrates events with a unique twist and a sense of intrigue. A noteworthy aspect of the book is the skillful development of the characters, each with intriguing and relatable backstories. The professional editing is evident, as errors and blunders are minimal. The narrative maintains a suspenseful rhythm that leaves readers yearning for more. The story's realism is striking, immersing readers in an experience akin to living through its events. The straightforward storytelling is devoid of unnecessary narrative, ensuring readers remain engaged.

My rating for this book is a perfect 5 out of 5, as there are no elements warranting deductions. There is nothing about the book that I don't like, nor does it have a negative aspect. The clarity of the story, the intricate details of character roles, the progression of the plot, and the palpable realism all contribute to this favorable score. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to adult enthusiasts of fiction, intrigue, thrillers, and adventure. It's a truly gripping read.

I really like it when an author can make the reader feel a part of the book’s adventures with just their words. Experiencing what comes with kidnapping by a Mexican drug gang must be terrifying.

I have to say that the basic idea didn't seem very promising to me, though that's very subjective, but its development seems more intriguing than I expected, so I might decide to read it. Thank you for your great review!

I enjoy reading action packed novels and I am glad to come in contact with this book. What could be the other missions the group was allocated for. Welldone.

I do love a good rescue mission! However that said, this is not my usual style. Might give it a chance though as your review seems to speak highly of the book 🙂
