Miko Montgomery's book, Wack City, presents an alluring exploration of Las Vegas through narratives and events. It offers a distinctive viewpoint, diverging from conventional perceptions of the city. Themes of jump scares, horror, and empathy interweave in the story. The narrative follows Jill Levy, who arrives in Las Vegas seeking a big win. She meets Reuben, who offers her a ride, sparking an arrangement where Jill, a Hollywood producer, listens to Reuben's ideas in exchange for lodging.

Reuben shares four captivating tales that reveal the essence of the city. The first tale involves eerie mannequins, while the second delves into a horrifying dysfunctional family. The third introduces a modern take on Frankenstein, and the fourth combines ghosts with a terminator-like twist. Reuben's creativity shines, as recognized by Jill, yet she aims to exploit his brilliance secretly. Her ulterior motive clashes with embracing his ingenuity.

The reason I love this book is because of its ingenious departure from the typical views of Las Vegas, presenting fresh perspectives. Among its captivating narratives, the ghost story deeply resonated with me. The character Roland Gryphon, at the heart of this tale, became a personal source of inspiration. The portrayal vividly conveyed how compassion and a pure soul can enhance the world's safety and kindness. Roland's brave action sets a remarkable example, emphasizing the rarity of daring everything for righteousness. The profound impact of his choices instils an emotion that deserves to be emulated. This aspect of the book touched me deeply, making it a favourite of mine.

One aspect of the book that I found unsettling was the inclusion of certain characters in the stories. A few of these characters were rather disconcerting, and this didn't sit well with me. Considering that readers often have active imaginations, encountering such unsettling characters has the potential to disturb their perceptions on certain matters. This element of the book is something I dislike.

I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars, considering it nothing short of a masterpiece. It exudes invigorating intrigue and captivating beauty and holds me spellbound, making it impossible to set aside. The book displayed exceptional editing, was devoid of errors, and presented its content in an effortlessly digestible manner. I wholeheartedly recommend this work to enthusiasts of jump scares, horror, and even psychopathic narratives. Those who revel in such elements are sure to relish and profoundly admire a creation of this remarkable calibre.
