A Walk Through the Grapes by David Jackson is a novel about Jace, a young man who spent years pursuing his goals before returning in vain to his little hometown. Reiterating in his family proves to be difficult and challenging. Emotions are high for everyone upon his homecoming after leaving all he has ever known behind, including his dearest. Situations start to develop as soon as the young man arrives that no one could have predicted. Even worse, what is this secret that his family is harboring? Will he find out before enforcement does?

This book is amazing and enlightening! From its cover, I had so many ideas of what to expect. Sadly, most of them I now find absurd. Its plot is nothing one could possibly guess. At one point, I thought I had figured out where Robert’s car was, and on the next page, I’m back in wonder again about what happened to it. It also has the element of killing suspense abruptly, leaving readers in an unexpected calm before another storm. The author is so descriptive that I could visualize the part when the rear wheels were not getting enough weight to gain traction. This is the kind of visual imagery that kept me turning page after page.

Further, the book features some interesting lessons. I recall one about how to breathe in more oxygen, as it is more practical in my daily life. I enjoyed every bit of its humor, like Jace sounding like a helpless puppy stuck in a crate. The chapters are short and uniquely written in third-person narration. Similarly, the narrator shows us Jace’s perspective, leaving us in the dark and wondering.

In conclusion, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. It disclosed themes of family, crime, romance, love, and friendship. I was awe-struck by the author’s red herrings, which made me love this book even more. There was nothing to dislike about this book. It was professionally edited, and I encountered no grammar mistakes. I recommend it to fans of C/T/M/H. Readers who enjoy fast-paced fiction will also enjoy this book.
