Like My Mother Before Me by Naley Gonzalez is a coming-of-age story about Alizé, a high school student who discovers she has paranormal abilities. As she grapples with her newfound power, she also deals with typical teenage challenges like peer pressure, school, and relationships. The book begins with Alizé being skeptical of the supernatural, but as the visions and encounters become more frequent and disturbing, she begins to realize that she is not crazy. She must come to terms with her own power and learn to use it for good, even as she struggles to control it. Alizé's journey of self-discovery is also a journey of personal growth. She must confront her own flaws and shortcomings, and learn to be more responsible and caring. She also learns to embrace her family's past, and to face the truth about her mother's mysterious death.

Gonzalez does an excellent job of portraying Alizé as a complex and relatable character who grows from a spoiled and self-absorbed girl to a mature and responsible young woman. The supporting characters are also well-developed, and they add depth to the story. Martin's trustworthiness, Ezra's unwavering support, and Zoraida's protective nature are just a few examples. The evolution of Alize's relationships with these characters adds emotional depth to the story, allowing readers to connect with them on a personal level.

The plot is engaging and suspenseful, and the pacing is well-balanced. The book does have a somewhat slow start, but it quickly picks up and keeps you hooked until the end. The plot twist is unexpected but believable, and it adds a touch of mystery to the story. I wholeheartedly give Like My Mother Before Me a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars.

In conclusion, whether you're a fan of mystery, the supernatural, or simply a well-crafted coming-of-age stories, Like My Mother Before Me is a must-read that promises an engaging and thought-provoking experience. However, it's important to note that the book's content includes references to mature themes which makes it best suited to mature audiences.
