Review of Malicious Intent
"If human behavior is 50 percent genetic, then the distance between good and evil would be impossible to predict. But how difficult is it to overcome evil? This is the statement that concludes the novel Malicious Intent by A.L. Smith. Kasey James, during his days at Texas Coastal University, was a star football player, but he was obsessed with his roommate, Chandler, and had an imaginative relationship with him. Kasey and Chandler had an accident that halted Kasey's football career. Chandler's father, Dr. Montgomery Sr., noticed Kasey's feelings for his son and assigned Angel, one of the popular girls on campus, the task of providing his son with a college experience he would never forget. Love blossomed between them, and they eventually got married.
Ten years into their marriage, despite being blessed with children and well taken care of by her husband, Angel desired more of Chandler's attention, as he dedicated more time to his work than his family. One day at the gym, she met Kasey James and fell for him. Driven by her husband's lack of connection and unaware of Kasey's lingering obsession with her husband, she allowed things to unfold—things that would reveal her hidden past to her husband, take her to jail, threaten her health status, and thrust her into the public spotlight. Read this book to discover how the past will haunt the Montgomerys and uncover many shocking revelations about people with malicious intentions.
The book is well-crafted and a pleasure to read. One of its greatest strengths is the continuous suspense. The book opens with Attorney Alex receiving a phone call from Chandler, and from there, it's a cascade of revelations. The characters are intricately connected in many ways. My favorite character in the book is Attorney Alex. Her expertise has contributed to the unveiling of many unexpected developments. Kasey's identical twin brother, Kalvin, skillfully conceals himself from the whole situation, a fact that would have gone unnoticed if not for Alex and her team.
Another aspect I appreciated about the book was the author's education on HIV. A.L. Smith's professional knowledge shines through as she shares insights about this disease. There's nothing I disliked about the book, and I applaud the author for skillfully crafting Malicious Intent. It's a book that keeps readers glued to their seats, hungry for more. It illustrates the impact of parents' actions on their children's lives, promotes understanding among couples, and conveys many other valuable insights that readers will discern for themselves.
I rate the book a perfect 5 out of 5 stars due to its professional editing and engaging plot. I highly recommend this book to fans of well-written fiction, couples, law students, and general readers.
