[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Deadly Secrets from Pond Island" by Olivia Raymond.]
Port Logan, a small, idyllic town, seems like the perfect place for a city girl seeking a slower pace. Inspired by her friend, Vanessa moves with the intention of creating a fresh start. Deadly Secrets from Pond Island is a fictional mystery written by Olivia Raymond.
Although a successful criminal lawyer, Vanessa Hutchins decides to take the search for happiness into her own hands. Having what seems to be an impulsive idea, she quits her job, buys a house, and moves to the country. She quickly realizes that happiness is not easily achieved when she is forced to battle Sir Blob Bob. Determined to succeed, she begins to tackle the nightmare that is her house. While decluttering her house, she stumbles into a box of secrets and simultaneously a horrid tale spanning years. Suddenly, the little town doesn't seem so charming anymore, and friends are no longer friendly.
One positive aspect of this book was how well written it was. The characters were properly developed, and even though there were a bit more characters, the book was easy to follow. It was also packed with enough excitement, leaving the reader constantly wanting more. I also loved that while there was chemistry between Vanessa and the agent, it didn't overshadow the main story of the book. Being a lover of mystery, I eagerly followed the book from the start, hoping to see where it was headed; the author did not disappoint. The author did not drag out the story unnecessarily. The book was also exceptionally well edited, and I couldn't find a single error in it.
While I did enjoy reading this book, one thing I liked the least about it was how the timelines moved in some parts. It would go from a particular time to suddenly weeks ahead, moving really quickly in some and slowly in others. It had a bit of an unsettling effect.
I give this book a rating of five out of five stars. The positive aspects of the book highly influenced the high rating it received. I enjoyed this book, and I think others will, despite the negative aspect above-mentioned, as it did not detract much from the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading mysteries, especially murder mysteries.
