House of Hoops: A Hillary Broome Novel is a page-turner that keeps you guessing throughout the entire thing. Hillary Broome seems to be on quite the adventure in life. She is tasked with succeeding in her job, keeping her daughter safe, and facing her past. Hillary Broome Kiffin is a mom to a young teenage girl who dreams of playing basketball. Because of this dream, Hillary is working towards opening a community center in downtown Sacramento, CA. However, her past haunts her when an old professor tries to stop it. This professor is determined to deter all anti-urban development within this city. What makes him even more determined to be successful is that he could not stop the building of a giant arena in the downtown area as well. While fighting off all of her old professors' antics, Hillary has to keep her daughter safe from mass shootings in schools. When an event comes close to hurting her daughter, Hillary has to decide to seek out her own mother, who abandoned her years before.

This book was very well-written. There was a lot going on within the storyline, but it was not too hard to follow with each event. The writing style is direct, and the vocabulary is easy to follow. An individual would find it hard to guess what is coming next. You also did not have to love basketball in order to read it.

There was not much that I disliked about this book. At first, I got the characters turned around, but that was my own fault. As the story went on, it was easy to keep them straight.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I thought it was well-written and kept the reader guessing. There were multiple storylines going on, but it was not confusing to follow. This book offered modern issues as well. We are dealing with mass shootings in schools too often. Individuals are trying to stop some urban development in cities all over. The mental health of children is declining because of many events. Finally, many individuals are looking for loved ones because of being estranged. All events that took place in this book are relevant to real-life issues happening every day.

I would recommend this book to young adult individuals who like crime novels. It is an easy read but makes an individual want to continue to read it. This novel is an excellent work of fiction that speaks to all individuals.
