Review of Origins of Rage
Melanie Morris has dreams where she sees people being murdered. Sometimes, she can stop the killer before the crime; sometimes, she's too late.
Melanie's dreams are becoming more complex. As the questions pile up, the danger rises until she finds herself in a race against time to save herself and the people she loves. Who is the girl in her visions? What is the cause of the fear and grief she can sense from the girl? Lies are unearthed. As she follows the clues to unravel the truth, Melanie will either escape the dangers piling against her or end up with loss, pain, and grief. Which will it be?
Origins of Rage by Ella Graff dived straight into the plot and kept a fast pace till the end. The fast pace would draw the reader in and keep them engaged at every turn.
I appreciate the way the author was able to incorporate the past seamlessly into the story. She didn't add awkward pauses in the story while trying to create some backstory. She set the scene through the main character's memories and thoughts.
We were in the head of the main character a lot, and she was always rambling. Ironically, I didn't find this a turnoff in any way, as it added to the flow of the story, gave me insight into the character's mind, and helped me see things as they unfolded — and how they affected her.
One of the most impressive aspects of the book was the seamless integration of different subplots and genres. Rather than clashing, they complemented each other to enhance the overall reading experience. An example would be the romance between Brody and Melanie. Instead of watering down the "thriller" aspect of the story, it added depth and intensity to the narrative. It was fascinating to see how all the different elements of the book complemented each other, creating a well-rounded story.
The story outline painted a fascinating picture, and I was not disappointed by the author's execution of the story. Each moment was perfectly executed, from the first series of dreams that kickstarted the crazy journey to the resolution. Things slowed down towards the end and became cheesy, but I loved it because it seemed a fitting conclusion to the story.
The book was exceptionally edited. I found nothing to dislike about it. Therefore, I'd rate Origins of Rage 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to lovers of books with a mixture of thriller, mystery, and romance.
