This book, Blanket Immunity by Adam Van Susteren represents fictional art. A young lawyer, Joanna P Channing, whose friends call her Jo, has worked as a Deputy District Attorney and a Public Defender. Jo has dreamed of being a Judge. When Jo did not get elected to be a Judge, she found herself at a bit of a crossroads. Jo decided to open her own Criminal Defense Law Firm. Starting the Law Firm with nothing, she is eager to receive her first client.

Brad is a police officer, on leave pending a rape accusation. After taking his story and looking at his proof, Jo decides to take on his case. Jo is excited to retain her first client.

As Jo is investigating Brad’s case, she encounters Omar. Omar is a suspicious character. Jo is extremely cautious about Omar; she does not want to enter herself into anything illegal but agrees to assist him when she can.

Each one of these clients develops their separate problems, but none of these clients are genuinely who Jo believes them to be. After completing some brief investigative work, Jo believes she is being lied to, but who is lying? Can she shut down this scandal before it is too late?

I enjoyed this story. The series of events that came midway through the book was shocking. Jo’s expertise has contributed to the unveiling of many unexpected developments. I liked the friendship that was shared between the characters and loved witnessing their teamwork. Some humorous parts made me laugh out loud. The author’s legal background comes across throughout the book, which exposes some of the flaws in the judicial system. The crimes and the story are relatable to today’s society and how the legal system works.

I did not find anything negative about this book, and I only found a couple of errors but they did not impact my ability to read and understand the book. Blanket Immunity was professionally edited. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. This book was very engaging. It had humor, suspense, action and always left me wanting to see what was going to happen next. The minimal errors, my enjoyment of the book, and consideration of all I have mentioned above justify the rating I assigned this book.

I enthusiastically recommend this book to prospective readers who revel in crime, mystery, and surprising twists.
