[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Muriel MacDougall and The Mad God" by C. Kiefer.]
The thrilling journey of Muriel MacDougall might amaze you. Because C. Kiefer brings you a story filled with mystery and magic. As the title of the book suggests, Muriel MacDougall and the Mad God is about a deal between a young girl and a God she doesn't even know, with a prophecy to come true. Join 16-year-old Muriel as she discovers the truth about her world and fights with her inner self. Muriel lives in Ireland in the year 2073. Her life transforms as she becomes aware of a mad god with a prophecy to come true. She visits a completely new world of beasts and living creatures. The beauty and magic of this world amaze her, but the fear of losing her life or changing into a beast always worries her.
Everything starts when, one misty morning, on the way to her school, Muriel encounters a huge black bird. an eagle, she thinks, but it is completely black, resembling a crow. It terrifies her as the bird starts to attack her. Muriel manages to escape, hurt by the claws of the bird, and that's where the world changes. One night, every one of her friends had the same nightmare. Being chased by a huge black bird and everyone being killed. The nightmare amazes everyone because they think it is nothing but a coincidence. But for Muriel, it is something strange because she has the same nightmare as well, but she is the bird chasing others. Every day, she feels more stressed and worries more as she develops new abilities. Talking to the crows, for example, is something she learns to do. But what exactly does the mad god want? Is Muriel a beast, or will she transform into one? One must read this novel to know who Muriel Macdougall is!
Muriel Macdougall and the Mad God took me into a whole new world of mysteries. So many things are happening, and no one knows what will happen next. Every chapter of this book took me by surprise. The story introduces another world of people with special abilities. Not only people, because I still remember reading about a walking library, which left me amazed. The story kept me engaged, and I loved how every character could be understood in some way. The author focused on the emotions and feelings of the characters, which made it more realistic. There was a mix of rivalry, love and care, fear, and trust within each character. The story itself kept me so attached that I couldn't wait to see what would happen at the end. There was also a feeling of not knowing what the real evil is and suspecting each character for a while, and I think that made me read with more joy and excitement.
I liked the book. It was a new experience for me, and I am glad I read this book. One thing I didn't like that much was the editing issue. I found many grammatical errors that did bother me while reading, and I think the book needs professional editing. With that being said, I have nothing else to point out, and I enjoyed the book. I would have given it a perfect rating, but the errors made me take out one star. That makes it 4 out of 5 stars.
I do recommend this thrilling novel to readers who enjoy reading C/T/M/H. I am sure it will make you wonder and think about the scenes. It does contain profanity, so for those who want a clean read, I wouldn't suggest this. But overall, it's a great book.
