The Patricide -A locked room Mystery is written by Kim Ekemar and is categorized under the CTMH genre.
Patrice Lafarge is a man who likes to keep to himself. He owns a large property which he currently resides on alone, with only a housemaid, Justine, and his simple son Gaspard Lafarge, who stays in a little cottage on the property. Patrice Lafarge loves his property and wants it to remain protected after he has gone. He does not want his children to divide it up and sell it only to be turned into a profitable investment. One day he decides to change his will and he invites all his children, who live around the country, to come to visit him on his birthday. Under this pretext, he will discuss the new will with them.
However, after the will has been explained to the children, Patrice Lafarge is found dead in his room, with the door locked, from the inside. This leads to an investigation into what could have been the cause of his sudden death. Each of the children are suspected culprits. Jean-Claude Rimbaud, a local police inspector is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. He also has the help of his aunt who seems to have a knack of understanding situations far quicker than her nephew.
The story was not particularly deep or scary, however, it was a very pleasant read. Readers who enjoy mystery will be intrigued to follow events as they unfold in the search for the culprit. This book was brilliantly written, engaging and I couldn’t put it down. It was interesting to try and work out who was the culprit behind the murder, or whether in fact Patrice’s death was an accident. I am rating this book a four out of four stars and would recommend it to those who love a good mystery.
